What's Wrong w/ Showing Eight Belles Injury On Air?

Seeing how everyone is patting NBC on the back for "doing the right thing" by not showing Eight Belles injury is quite frankly…full of horse s--t. How many times have we watched a football player completely snap his leg in half, with the producers showing the incident over and over before moving on?

Agreed.

NBC was covering their ass. Horse racing will survive this, but the moment they start showing animals getting slaughtered on the air it's all over. That's a lot of TV money and bad press for NBC to suck up. The right thing usually coincides with money.

Good point.

Interesting: "How come I can watch Clint Malarchuk getting his jugular vein slashed over and over again on YouTube (which I do), but I can't watch this injury? That's the real tragedy here."
I agree, I don't need to see that on ESPN 5 times in one second intervals...Although some people like that sort of thing..

There may be a degree of pain that the horses go through with this type of injury that is worse then a human getting their leg broken, or neck sliced..(although I know nothing about horses) They don't euthanize the humans after they break their leg or get their throat sliced..they go to the hospital! so I don't think you can compare humans to horses at all.

In contact sports there is a much higher probability of injury. People expect in football to see hard hits and sometimes that results in broken bones.

simple, because the horse will never get up from an injury that debilitating. it's different from an athlete breaking their leg, because the athlete won't be euthanized.

Agreed with sambot.

Besides, athletes have the CHOICE to play their sport. They understand and take the risk of being injured every time they step out on the court or field. That's not the case with the horses.
