Houston, TX- It wasn’t a race winning effort this weekend for Dale Coyne Racing and their driver Justin Wilson, but he was arguably one of the best drivers outside of Will Power and Scott Dixon this weekend. Wilson was fastest on the opening day of action on Friday at the new 1.634-mile street circuit. He backed that up with a solid outing in qualifying Saturday morning and raced very well in the first dual as he finished third. He started up front again today virtue of qualifying being rained out this morning. The field was set by points which allowed his No. 19 Boy Scouts of America Honda being up front. He again looked very racy and came home fourth in today’s 90 Lap action. Now, Wilson is one of the hottest drivers at the end of the year. He finished fourth in Baltimore on Labor Day weekend and second in Sonoma the week before. That’s finished of second, fourth, third and fourth the past four races. If we go back a bit further he had two straight eight place finishes in the second dual in Toronto then in Mid-Ohio in August to give him six straight top 10 finishes. It’s looking more and more likely he will re-up with DCR for 2014 as he’s quietly becoming a race winning threat every week. He’s going to earn his best career points finish this year as he’s way up there despite being mathematically eliminated for championship contention with one race left in two weeks. Neverthelss, he’s deserving of a top ride which will likely have to wait another year. Eric Smith is the Lead Motorsports Writer for Race Review Online.
