Ryan Hunter-Reay became the first American since 2006 to win “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” Hunter-Reay passed Helio Castroneves in a thrilling final lap to win the 2014 Indianapolis 500. “I’m a proud American boy, that’s for sure,” Hunter-Reay said in Victory Lane before he was joined by his wife and son. “I’ve watched this race since I was sitting in diapers on the floor in front of the TV. My son did it today. He watched me here. I’m thrilled. This is American history, this race, this is American tradition.” American Ryan Hunter-Reay wins the Indianapolis 500! But certainly taking the positive out of this, it was a great race. I did everything I could obviously to try to stop (Hunter-Reay). I do not take (the result) for granted.  I’m extremely happy with the result. “We were able to put ourselves in a great position to win. Unfortunately, as I said, it wasn’t our day.  It was great to see an American driver winning.” 2014 Indianapolis 500 Results Pos.
