Weekly Pick 'Em: 3/21 *Good Friday*
What's going on YB? Hope everyone's having a 'Good Friday'. Oh come on, everyone was thinking it.
So it's a big weekend for the boys and a big shout out to The Pretty Boy for finally having a week without an Albany pick. One time shame on me, two or three times shame on Terry. Reparations: So the Jman went 6-1 last week and not to put myself out of place but I'd have gone a perfect 7-0 had I not gone against my better judgment and backed the Danes out of principle. But if Terry is going to go to the grave for them on IL.tv, I have to back him on it. Right now I'm sitting at 15-6 for the last three weeks and like Stony Brook, I'm hoping to keep the momentum going. So let's get to it. Towson v Hofstra Hofstra has had the short end of the stick schedule wise lately. Hopkins and Princeton back to back is no walk in the park. But they put together a fantastic overtime win against the Bluejays and despite the score I think they played very well against Princeton. The Tigers haven't had it easy either, dropping two against Maryland and Virginia. The offense is starting to come together, putting 13 goals on the Wahoos, but I foresee them struggling against a team that held Paul "The Man Child" Rabil scoreless. Edge: Hofstra Hobart v Rutgers I see this as the battle of "who's loses were better". While the Hobart schedule thus far might not be quite as strong as Rutgers has been, I'm going to have to go with a team that pushed the Hoya's to double overtime. Edge: Hobart UMBC v Ohio State Did anyone else see that UMBC made the NCAA tourney? I was shocked. Oh and their lacrosse team has proven to be legit as well. I like Ohio State . . . oh wait, no I don't, but that's a whole other story unto itself. Wins over Robert Morris and Villanova don't really put you in the same league as almost bring down Hopkins @ Homewood AND knocking off the Terps in triple overtime. Sorry, better luck next time, GO BLUE! Edge: UMBC Harvard v UPenn This one is a toss up that could go either way. I'm going to go with Harvard on the basis that I think they are playing better than the Quakers as of late. And when in doubt . . . count on a Navy man; I'm counting on you Tillman Edge: Harvard Denver v Stony Brook McBride put up 10 goals?! Dats a lotta dimp!! *If you don't recognize the reference, shame on you* The Seawolves have been on an offensive tear averaging 16 goals a game in their last three wins. This could bode well against a Pioneer team that gave up 20 to Cornell in the Monsoon of '08. Friends who endured the buckets of rain said that there was a visible contrast between Cornell's "all business" attitude and the "relaxed, freestyle" one of Denver. (Newt's words, not mine) Don't tell Brownie about this one. Edge: Stony Brook Hopkins v Virginia If the UVA offense can continue to fire on all cylinders and they are able to exploit the weaknesses we've seen in the Bluejay's two game skid. Coach Petro will be looking to right the ship and though they still won a National Title last year in spite of a three straight loses, I'm sure that he'd prefer to avoid putting themselves into that hole again. Personally I think the Hopkins seniors are pushing too hard in the chase for the elusive third ring. Relax boys one ground ball, one pass, one shot at a time. The Bluejays will have to get to Danny Glading if they hope to disrupt the UVA attack. According to my high school AP teacher, "Studying history ensures that we make the right decision in the future." Going to have to go with the Wahoos at home in this one. Edge: Virginia Maryland v North Carolina Offense wins games, defense wins championships Edge: North Carolina *Special Note* It's not on the docket but I've got Duke over Georgetown Can't wait for the games this weekend, Going to grill a few burgers and Irving and I are going to watch the games, then spending Easter Sunday with the wife's family. I hope everyone has a safe holiday, God Bless and I'll see you on the field. -Jman
