As the early season gives us frauds, it also gives us the real deals. Many believe that Matt Harvey is the real deal and that Jackie Bradley, Jr. might have been brought up too soon. Which trends are believable and which ones will turn out to be like Saved By The Bell – just not that good in retrospect? Here are some that I believe will continue as the season progresses.  P.S. I added one to this list just for fun. Betcha can’t guess which one!Note: All stats taken through Wednesday, April 17.11. Roy Halladay and Ubaldo Jimenez will continue to declineThree years ago, Halladay and Jimenez were two of the best pitchers in the MLB. Last year, both started to show some signs of decline. Halladay had his worst ERA of his career and Jimenez proved that his 2011 disappointment wasn’t a fluke. This season, not much has changed. Save for a “win” over the hapless Marlins, Halladay has been terrible and Jimenez has been equally as bad. They are both done folks, and will have that one start he...

Twas the Night Before Harvey Day…

“Harvey Day” is something many of us have been celebrating since Matt Harvey’s very first start last season and the idea has taken on a life of it’s own. With that in mind, I came up with this poem on a whim Tuesday night. It is set (obviously) to the rhythm and tone of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” and should be read as you tucked your kids into bed on Harveve. I...

Is Matt Harvey The Real Deal?

Whenever a player does well in April, any seasoned baseball fan will be quick to point out that it is still early. The Mets might not be very good this year, but Matt Harvey seems to be grabbing all the attention as an ace in the making. The question is, how good can he be? Through four starts this season, Harvey has gone 4-0 with a 0.93 ERA. Batters are hitting just .108 against...

Mets Look To Build On Harvey's Gem: Mets Lineup Vs. Nationals - April 20, 2013

Last night Mets young stud pitcher Matt Harvey pitched another gem against the Nationals Stephen Strasburg. Harvey was masterful in the much hyped contest, besting Strasburg and the Nationals 7-1. Harvey pitched 7 innings allowing one run, three walks, and striking out 7. Harvey lowered his microscopic ERA to 0.93. Strasburg? He pitched six innings allowing two runs, walked 2, and struck out 6.

The Matt Harvey Phenomenon: I’ve Seen Meteoric Rises Like This Before

Matt Harvey has been compared to some of the biggest names of the game both past and present. Whether it’s because of his lethal arsenal, his no-nonsense demeanor on the mound, or just his determination to keep getting better. In 14 starts he is breaking down long-standing records with such ease. While expectations and pressure like that would crush most young players, Matt Harvey...

Matt Harvey’s Star Keeps Burning

Tom Seaver. Mike Mussina. Roger Clemens. Dwight Gooden. Matt Harvey has been compared, whether it be stuff, demeanor or franchise history, in some way has been compared to them all. Yes, it is not fair. Yes, it places unreasonable pressure. But, that’s the nature of covering and following sports. Managers, general managers and players all do it, too. HARVEY: Keeps burning. (AP...

Metszilla and DraftStreet present a FREE Fantasy Baseball challenge– $300 Prize Pool

New York Mets baseball is in full swing and for a lot of us that means fantasy baseball season is also well underway.  Matt Harvey, David Wright, John Buck and the rest of the Mets have helped bring some newfound excitement to Queens, giving fans hope for what many thought would be a ‘lost’ 2013 season.  That same hope may or may not be in tact for your fantasy baseball team...

3 Up & 3 Down: Knocking Off The Nationals Edition

Baseball is such a great sport. There is something for everyone, offense, defense, strategy, statistics, history and pitching. I’ll take a well pitched game over a slugfest any day. When you look at the Washington Nationals starting rotation, you just got to love what you see: Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez (one of my favorites), Jordan Zimmermann, and Dan Haren. This is a team...
