[Editor's note: A few days ago I received an email from Marc Smilnow on behalf of his daughter Haley. In it, he told me about a family trip last summer during which the Smilnows took in 26 MLB games over 30 days at seven different ballparks. Along the way, Haley caught the journalism bug and interviewed Curtis Granderson, AJ Pierzynski, and others. Her work was published in Baseball Youth Magazine, and Marc was hoping we at MSF might be interested in running the Pierzysnki piece on the site to help "Haley fulfill a dream of becoming a journalist." Frankly, Haley's content - which actually involves interviewing real, live athletes - is more journalistic in nature than most of the blogging we do here at MSF, where we are far more analysis and opinion oriented. So I hope Haley is proud to have her work appear here at Midwest Sports Fans, because we sure are proud to run it!] ***** How do we increase our content quality here at MSF? With actual journalists like ...

This ball wouldn't stretch for Hawk Harrelson

I wish we had every close Chicago White Sox loss saved for posterity thanks to the play by play antics of the one and only Hawk Harrelson.  Last we saw Hawk, he was observing a minute of silence for a White Sox walk off loss in Detroit.  Today, the southsiders found themselves trailing 10-8 in the bottom of the ninth hosting the Tigers with runners on second and third and 2 outs...

Image: Hilarious Father/Son Combo Fan Signs at White Sox-Tigers Game

One of my favorite people to follow on Twitter is @WorldofIsaac. So you should follow him. Now. My latest reminder of his real-time Twitter greatness was the posting of the image below, taken while watching today’s weird White Sox-Tigers game. I love this image for several reasons: The “dad” is wearing a Cardinals shirt/jersey while proclaiming the greatness of the Tigers...

Pujols homer not enough as Halos lose

The Chicago White Sox desperately needed a strong outing from one of their starters. Chris Sale provided it. Ozzie Guillen, Fidel Castro and Why No One Cares

[On Hugo Chavez] What I say about Chavez, I don’t say I like his ideas, I don’t say I like the way he is. I just said I like the man because he works hard and he says what he thinks. Some people don’t like it, but I don’t say I like the man, he’s a governor. I don’t say I like the man, he do great things in the world, in my country. I said I like the man because he loves...
