I'm not sure how many more late-inning comebacks I can take. But man, they sure are exciting.
The
Los Angeles Dodgers rallied for two runs in the eighth inning of Game 2 of their NLCS against the reigning Champion
Philadelphia Phillies, coming away with a 2-1 victory Friday night.
After a tremendous start by veteran Pedro Martinez (2 hits over 7 innings) and a solo shot by monster Ryan Howard, the Phils thought they were on their way back home with a 2-0 lead in the series. But since Andre Ethier drew a bases-loaded, two-out walk from rookie J.A. Happ they'l be heading home all knotted up at 1-1.
The trouble began in the eighth with Ronnie Belliard’s bunt single that got past Chan Ho Park and Howard. Russell Martin followed that up with a grounder to Pedro Feliz, who relayed it to Chase Utley, who totally blew it... his throwing error allowed pinch-runner Juan Pierre to score the tying run from the second.
Contributing to the Philly wreckage, Jim Thome singled off Scott Eyre, Rafael Furcal drew a walk from Ryan Madson to load em up, and Matt Kemp struck out before Happ polished off the Dodgers' rally.
Let's not forget LA's brilliant pitching! Vicente Padilla kicked ass for 7.1 innings and let the bullpen do the rest. Hong-Chih Kuo needed only three pitches for the win before Jonathan Broxton worked a perfect ninth for the save. Nicely done.
Game 3 of the best-of-seven is all set for this Sunday at 8:07pm ET in the City of Brotherly Love.

It's hard to really rip into Cole Hamels for his lackluster showing in the NLDS this year. The birth of your first child surely has to weigh on any guy, Cole not excluded. For the Dodgers, the rotation has not yet been announced. We know that Randy Wolf and Clayton Kershaw are in, but the fact that neither has pitched in a week means that either could go for Game 1 tomorrow (the safer bet is Wolf in Game 1, which is what morning radio is confirming early today, though I can't find confirmation).
