TEAMS: Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers
The Boston Red Sox came out of Spring Training looking like the team to beat in the American League. The questions surrounding Adrian Gonzalez’s surgically repaired shoulder seemed to have been answered with a strong training camp. Three players that struggled to stay on the field in 2011, Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis and Jacoby Ellsbury, all looked fully recovered and ready to play and the rotation seemed poised to rank among the best in the game.
The team began the season with a tough series on the road, facing the reigning American League Champion Texas Rangers. Jon Lester got the opening day nod for Boston, facing Ranger’s ace C.J. Wilson. It was an inauspicious start for the Red Sox as Lester struggled, giving up home runs to Mike Napoli, Ian Kinsler and Nelson Cruz. The offense was up to the challenge, though and the two teams remained tied until the eighth inning. In what would prove to be a distressing harbinger, Daniel Bard failed to hold Texas scoreless and gave...

Fantasy Basball Fallout – Andrew Bailey Joins Red Sox Nation
The Boston Red Sox are quickly becoming my fantasy nemesis. Exactly two weeks before the Andrew Bailey trade, the Red Sox had picked up another young reliever, Mark Melancon. At the time, he was expected to be the closer while providing the Red Sox with a cheap reliever with many club controlled years. And now they’ve struck again, acquiring Andrew Bailey and Ryan Sweeney from...
2011: A Red Sox Year in Review Part 1: Pre-Season Portends Greatness
As the confetti showered the crowds in Times Square and the calendar turned from 2010 to 2011, the Boston Red Sox were in the middle of a bombastic off-season. Theo Epstein and his team had a busy December, trading three of the team’s top prospects to the San Diego Padres for first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and locking him into an eight year extension. GM Theo Epstein then inked...
Kalish To Miss Start of Season
According to MLBTradeRumors.com, Ryan Kalish says he had left shoulder surgery in November in addition to his September neck operation, according to Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe. Kalish may be ready for game action by May or June, but he doesn’t have a clear timetable. To read more click HERE.
Your Morning Dump...Where Quentin didn't fit the Red Sox mold
Every morning we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
According to a major league source, the Red Sox weren’t engaged in talks for outfielder Carlos Quentin, whom the White Sox traded to the Padres Saturday for pitching prospects Simon Castro...
2012: Futures Altered?
Here's the latest on my borderline-obsessive speculation about Futures at Fenway 2012:Red Sox schedule currently doesn't have any notation of the game(s) at all.Paw Sox schedule still shows them playing at Fenway against Buffalo on August 18th.Portland is already selling tickets to their home game that day, so they're out.Greenville is on the road that weekend.Salem has...
Minor Moves: Rich Hill
Let's keep track of the day's minor league signings right here...
The Red Sox have re-signed Rich Hill to a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training, reports John Tomase of The Boston Herald (on Twitter). The 31-year-old left-hander struck out a dozen in eight scoreless innings with the Sox last year before blowing out his elbow. He's currently rehabbing...
Jed Hoyer Names Son Beckett, Presumably After Red Sox Hurler Josh Beckett
Back in 2005, Jed Hoyer helped complete the trade to bring Josh Beckett to Boston. Now, the current Cubs general manager is bringing another Beckett to Chicago. The former Red Sox assistant general manager and his wife, Merrill, welcomed a baby boy to the world on Thursday, who they named Beckett, according to Peter Gammons. That's right, presumably after Red Sox pitcher Josh...
On to 2012
Your Boston Red Sox, as of December 31, 2011.**Subject to change. Blogger error always a possibility. Corrections welcome. Apologies for the fuzzy font.Happy New Year!
Sox 67
In early January of 1967, baseball in Boston was not a particularly hot topic. In world news, one headline announced: " LBJ asks for 6% income surtax to offset war cost." A later one says "He stakes future on moderate war", whatever that meant. The football world was building up to the first Super Bowl (it was only called a "championshiip game" then)...
