BLOCKBUSTER…not yet  Josh Hamilton and Zack Greinke are still with their respective clubs. I know we are all waiting for the huge signing and blockbuster deal but it hasn’t happened just yet.  The buzz is that the Dodgers are the front-runners in the Greinke sweepstakes, and numbers like $150 million are floating out there. That’s too rich for my blood that’s for sure.  Gary Armida of fullcountpitch.com and operationsports.com compared Greinke’s numbers to others on the market. It’s a fascinating article, and when looking at the numbers, the Ace like money Greinke’s going to receive does make you question the market for a starting pitcher with good, not great numbers. He a very good Major League pitcher and the jewel of the meetings, but is he worth being tagged the highest paid right-handed pitcher in the game? For more fantastic insight follow Gary at the above-mentioned sites and on his twitter account @GaryArmida  The Boston Red Sox are continuing to rebuild after a brutal 2012. Their first deal of the meetings saw them sign Mike Napoli to a three-year-deal worth $39 million. Yesterday saw them sign Shane Victorino to an almost identical three-years and $39 million.  And of course the Miami Marlins continue to subject themselves to the hatred of everyone. Less than two weeks after trading away the nucleus of their team to the Toronto Blue Jays, they traded Yunel Escobar to the Jays’ inter-divisional rival Tampa Bay Rays for 23-year-old Derek Dietrich. This might be good for Escobar. The Marlins aren’t going anywhere but the basement this year, and Rays manager Joe Maddon might turn Escobar into that player everyone thinks he should be.  The San Francisco Giants retained Marco Scutaro for three-years and $20 million pending a physical.  Three-time All-Star Dan Haren is now a member of the Washington Nationals, signing a one-year deal for $13 million. Haren will be a solid starter for a Nationals rotation that is anchored by Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann, and Gio Gonzalez. The Nats who were playing with house money last year now appear to have the edge in the always competitive NL East.  Stay tuned for a Day 3 recap tomorrow!
