The big news from the weekend comes out of Miami where the Marlins sent first basemen Gaby Sanchez to the minor leagues today. Sanchez was batting .202 in 119 at bats with one home run and 11 RBI. This comes on the heels of his weak second half of 2011 when he hit just .225 with six home runs in 235 at bats. The Marlins could move Logan Morrison to first base or look outside to fill the hole with someone like Adam Lind who was recently waived by Toronto or Derrek Lee.

Here is a look at the latest news and notes from around major league baseball to help you set your fantasy baseball lineup for week 8 (May 21 – May 207  of the 2012 fantasy baseball season.

American League:

6 games: BOS, CLE, CWS, DET, KC, MIN, NYY, OAK, TB, TEX, TOR
7 games: LAA, SEA

Pitchers:

Recent call up Alex Cobb got the start for the Tampa Bay Rays today in place of the injured Jeff Niemann and threw well, allowing two runs in seven innings with six strikeouts. He should be active in AL-only leagues and will start next week against the Boston Red Sox.

National League:

6 games: ARI, CHC, COL, HOU, LAD, MIL, PIT, STL, WAS
7 games: ATL, CIN, MIA, NYM, PHI, SD, SF

Hitters:

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Chris Young was activated from the disabled list and is back in center field and hitting fifth in the lineup. He should be activated in all formats for games next week. The team sent A.J. Pollock back to Triple-A to make room for Young on the roster.

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed second basemen Mark Ellis on the disabled list with a sprained leg. The team called up Ivan DeJesus from Triple-A, but Justin Sellers is expected to see the majority of at bats while Ellis is out.

The Chicago Cubs officially placed catcher Geovany Soto on the disabled list with a torn meniscus. He will be out of action for three-to-four weeks, with Koyie Hill taking over behind the plate.

Marlins outfielder Emilio Bonifacio is likely headed to the disabled list with an injured thumb from an attempted stolen base in Friday’s game. Bryan Petersen started in center field today and will likely see the majority of at bats while Bonifacio is out giving him some short-term value in NL-only formats.

Outfielder Allen Craig was placed on the disabled list by the St. Louis Cardinals with a strained hamstring. The injury is bad timing for the hot-hitting Craig who had five home runs and 15 RBI in his last 10 games. Shane Robinson is getting the start tonight in center field and will see a good portion of the at bats while Craig is out.

Pitchers:

Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker seems finally ready to relent to moving Aroldis Chapman into the closer role which makes him soneone to grab in mixed-league formats. Closer Sean Marshall almost blew the save against the New York Yankees today with four hits and two runs allowed in 1/3 of an inning. For the season Marshall now has a 5.02 ERA and 1.74 WHIP while Chapman is unscored upon in 21 1/3 innings with 38 strikeouts and a 0.66 WHIP.

Starting pitcher Tim Stauffer of the San Diego Padres is headed back to the disabled list with soreness in his elbow, the same injury which had him on the disabled list to the start the season. Recently claimed Eric Stults will take his place in the rotation and gets the start Thursday against the New York Mets.
