All-Star Game Lineups Announced With David Ortiz Hitting Seventh for American League Squad

The Yankees made it pretty clear that they weren't going to let David Ortiz beat them over the weekend, issuing six walks to the Red Sox designated hitter. It's probably safe to assume that Ortiz will have a few more pitches to see Tuesday night at the All-Star Game where Ortiz will hit seventh in a star-studded lineup with a ton of firepower. Ortiz, who was voted in as the...

Jonathan Papelbon Reflects on Relationship With Terry Francona, Weighs in On David Ortiz

Jonathan Papelbon has moved on from the Red Sox, but if you ask him about his time in Boston and how it ended, the Phillies closer seems happy to answer those questions. Papelbon spoke with members of the Boston media on Monday at media availability at the All-Star Game in Kansas City, and the right-hander fielded questions about the Red Sox. It's something that Papelbon has...

David Ortiz Hopes He Can Finish Career in Boston Playing in Front of 'Greatest Fans of All Time' (Video)

When David Ortiz said that Boston was turning into the "[expletive]-hole it used to be" a couple of weeks ago, it's quite apparent he wasn't talking about Red Sox fans. If for some reason he was, the Boston designated hitter has certainly changed his tune. Ortiz sat down with FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi in Kansas City at the All-Star Game to discuss not only...

Papelbon to Chooch after ASG: "Let's get back on track in the second half"

Jonathan Papelbon picked up the final out in the National League's 8-0 win in the 2012 All-Star Game last night. (Philliedelphia/Kevin Durso)  The Phillies had three All-Stars in yesterday's All-Star Game. For some fans, it meant being glued to the television to see them. For others, this All-Star Game probably had no meaning. The Phillies have an uphill climb ahead...

David Ortiz Dishes Out Advice to Jose Bautista, Mark Trumbo While Wearing Camera During Home Run Derby (Video)

David Ortiz knows how to have a good time at the All-Star Game, and he's no slouch at the Home Run Derby, either. Big Papi wore a Looxcie camera during Monday's festivities for WEEI.com and the footage offers a first-person look at Jose Bautista putting on a show. It's no Being John Malkovich, but it's still pretty cool to see what Papi is seeing as he makes his way...

Red Sox News & Notes - 7/11

While the rest of his Boston Red Sox teammates were enjoying some R&R, David Ortiz was busy watching his American League teammates get their butts kicked by the National League 8-0 in the 2012 MLB All-Star Game last night. The AL All-Stars managed just six hits in the game and Big Papi was responsible for one of them as he went 1-for-2. His single came in the 5th inning off...

Red Sox All-Star History: The MidSummer Legacy Of David Ortiz

David Ortiz will make his 8th appearance in the All-Star Game when he starts tonight in Kansas City. When the stars come out tonight in Kansas City, David Ortiz will be the only player for the Boston Red Sox a part of the action. Big Papi was voted in as the starting designated hitter and that’s fully justified based on this year’s numbers, not just the support he’s built up...

On Yankees-Red Sox, Vicente Padilla, Jonathan Papelbon, and Reggie Jackson

I could be wrong, but it looked and sounded like an awful lot of Yankees fans at Fenway Park this weekend. It seemed like much more than in the past, to the point where you heard rival chants, the way you do at Mets games. Hmmmm, Is that because Red Sox fans are less likely to buy the tickets these days? There certainly was much less buzz about this series than there was in the recent...

Phillies Jonathan Papelbon and Jimmy Rollins to Ruben Amaro: Don't Trade Hamels

Photo: Philliedelphia/Kevin Durso It's not uncommon that you hear of other players speaking about their teammates after being traded. What is uncommon is hearing other players speaking about their teammates before being traded. According to Todd Zolecki, a few players who spoke to reporters yesterday mentioned the recent rumors of their teammate Cole Hamels being potentially...

Taking Stock: Yankees - Red Sox series

After every series, we'll take stock of how each individual and group performance affects their overall value. Lineup Daniel Nava: His production at the top of the lineup continues to diminish. Game 1 was his best showing, and it wasn't that good. Pedro Ciriaco: Pedro gave Sox fans something to cheer about and temporarily blinded us from how bad this team actually is....

IntheOT: Red Sox told by MLB to NOT Show Controversial Replays on Big Screen at Fenway (podcast)

The Boston Red Sox decided to show a replay on a controversial call during yesterday’s game versus the Yankees. A fly ball hit to left field in the 6th inning resulted in David Ortiz taking ... (Read more...)

The Manager's Best Mov(i)e Yet

I love this story. Kudos to Bobby V. for sticking by the movie. The league is displeased with the film’s allegations of corruption and coercion in the signing process for young prospects from the Dominican Republic. MLB spokesman Pat Courtney said in an e-mail that the league “had a conversation with the Red Sox about the inaccuracies and misrepresentations that were in the...

Who’s to Blame for Phillies’ Disaster?

The first half is over. Thankfully. The Phillies have had their worst start since 1997 and nothing this season has really gone to plan. The questions of why have been asked now for 3 months. They’re only intensifying now, after a 9-25 performance in the last 34 games. Who is to blame? Charlie Manuel? Ruben Amaro? Injuries? The players? Frankly, I think there’s...
