As you are getting ready for your upcoming fantasy baseball draft or auction, there are a few different ways that can help you determine where there is value or a drop off in talent at each position. One way is by grouping each position into tiers to separate different levels of projected performance. By setting up tiers, it will give you a good idea how many catchers are at each level and what the chances are that someone in said level make it back to you for your next pick if you do not draft that position in the current round Here is a look at the 2013 fantasy baseball tiers for first basemen. Tier 1: Albert Pujols Joey Votto Prince Fielder I would be fine with flipping the order of Pujols and Votto as they have been going right after each other in mock drafts. Tier 2: Edwin Encarnacion Adrian Gonzalez Allen Craig Encarnacion looked like his teammate Jose Bautista with his breakout last season. His price tag is a little too high for me this year with so many owners looking to pay for close to a full repeat. Tier 3: Mark Teixeira Paul Goldschmidt Billy Butler People seem to be down on Teixeira, but he has the best chance of the trio to hit 30+ home runs and drive in more than 100 runs. Tier 4: Freddie Freeman Adam LaRoche Anthony Rizzo Ike Davis Eric Hosmer Mark Trumbo Ryan Howard Paul Konerko Chris Davis Kendrys Morales Corey Hart Tier 4 is a huge group with these players all having an average draft position within two rounds of each other. Corey Hart’s injury puts him at the bottom of the group for now until we have a better estimate on his return. Tier 5: Mark Reynolds Nick Swisher Justin Morneau Adam Dunn Dunn and Reynolds are average killers. Morneau’s power has been sapped by injuries. Tier 6: Brandon Belt Adam Lind I could see Logan Morrison going in this group if he is healthy by the time the season starts.   To get 2013 fantasy baseball projections, check out our Fantasy Baseball Draft Guide.
