Found March 30, 2013 on Burning River Baseball:
There has been no season in recent history where the Indians have entered the season feeling so positive. Everything started with the signing of Terry Francona which completely changed the perspective of everyone in Cleveland. A slew of big free agent signing filled all the holes in the roster when it had looked prior to the end of the season that they would be filled internally or with AAAA Spring Training invitees (like Mike McDade). This has changed the expectations from being picked to finish in fourth, competing with the Minnesota Twins for last place to being contenders for the division title along with the Tigers and White Sox. All this may be a little overblown as the Indians still have a very problematic starting rotation and an offense that is still not on the level of the Tigers or either of the big AL West teams (the Rangers and Angels).  The good news for the Indians is two-fold. Orbiting Cleveland: The book on Zach McAllister

Ace. Has there ever been a more ambiguous term in the baseball realm? For a game as grounded in statistics as baseball, it’s amazing how there has never been a concrete answer as to how we define an ace. Some define an ace as the best starting pitcher on each team while others see an ace as a pitcher who will be among the league leaders in several statistical categories. For me...

2013 Key Players: Ubaldo Jimenez

With opening day almost upon us, it’s time to finish the 2013 Cleveland Indians Key Players series. This article will focus on starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez. When I discussed Justin Masterson back in early February, I labeled him as quite possibly the most important player on the entire team. The fact is, Ubaldo Jimenez is right there with him. With question marks surrounding...

2013 Spring Training Game #34: Indians 4, Padres 6

Some Tribe fans may have had flashbacks to opening day 2012 watching Thursday’s bout between the Indians and Padres in Peoria, Arizona. Justin Masterson shined in five innings of work leaving with a 3-2 lead. In the seventh, closer Chris Perez came in and not only blew the lead, but gave up four runs on five hits including a pair of 2-run bombs. Thankfully, it was just a spring...

Who are the Most Intriguing Prospects in 2013?

Today concludes my so-called "adjective" series in which I have looked at various levels of Cleveland's minor league system with different adjectives in mind. It started with the prospects with the most to prove, continued with the most exciting and impressive prospects, and ends today with the most intriguing prospects. This list may be my favorite because it looks...

2013 MLB Award Predictions Have Hardware Going to Stephen Strasburg, Joey Votto, Terry Francona (Photos)

The ultimate goal in baseball is to win the World Series. A little extra hardware doesn’t hurt, though. Last season saw one of the tightest and most debated MVP races in recent history, with baseball enthusiasts going toe-to-toe over whether Mike Trout or Miguel Cabrera deserved the honor in the America League. Cabrera, who ultimately won the award, had the benefit of baseball’s...
