Reading Between The Seams:
Australia has produced 31 MLB Players
Continuing a tradition of starting the regular season in emerging baseball hotspots like Japan, Puerto Rico, and Mexico, Major League Baseball plans to continue its global marketing in the Pacific Rim by starting the 2014 season in Sydney, Australia. Major League Baseball released their 2014 schedule for all teams on Tuesday, and is starting the season in the Land Down Under with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks. The two National League West rivals (currently first and second in the division) will square off a week before the rest of the teams, on March 22 and 23 at historic Sydney Cricket Ground, which seats 47,000. While we think of venerable stadiums like Fenway Park (1912) and Wrigley Field (1914) as old, the SCG is 26 years older than that, hosting athletic events since 1886! And it was built in 1851!
The rest of baseball will open on Monday, March 31, with a Sunday Night Baseball game (teams TBD) on March 30. Don’t count on it being the Houston Astros hosting the Sunday Night opener again this year. The Astros will open with the New York Yankees, the team they finish 2013 with (potential last baseball games for Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, and Mariano Rivera each in their own way).
I guess it’s a little early to get excited about the 2014 season with the 2013 pennant race in full swing, but as they say in baseball “wait ’til next year”!

BEST OF MAXIM
When the Dodgers traded for Ricky Nolasco, I wasn't particularly a fan of the move. They didn't give up a lot of value and talent for him, but I just didn't see the fit.
I'm happy to say I was completely wrong (not the first time, certainly not the last).
Nolasco improved to 8-1 as a Dodger on Monday night by shutting down the soon-to-be-eliminated-from-division...
LOS ANGELES Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday he believes outfielder Matt Kemp will return to the lineup this season, despite a balky right hamstring that has slowed his comeback from a sprained ankle.
Kemp is rehabbing at the Dodgers' minor league facility in Glendale, Ariz., and took 10 swings in a simulated game on Tuesday. Mattingly said Kemp had six hits, four...
Who's ready for the Dodgers Down Under?

The team announced their preliminary schedule for the 2014 regular season on Tuesday.

Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Juan Uribe had one of the best nights of his 12-year career on Monday. The 34-year-old hit three home runs to lead LA to an 8-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Naturally, reporters were itching to speak with him after the game. They got their wish and them some. While […]
I recently landed one of the most aesthetically-pleasing cards I own. From 2013 Bowman Platinum, it's a Cutting Edge Stars bat slice from The Bison, #'d 04/50.My newest Mattycakes was had via eBay for just $8.14 delivered, a surprisingly low sum. I really dig the die-cut design and the fact that Topps went with a piece of bat rather than a simple jersey swatch.
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Paul Goldschmidt went 4 for 5 and drove in a pair of runs to help the Arizona Diamondbacks beat Los Angeles 4-1 Wednesday night, snapping a five-game skid against the Dodgers and avoiding a sweep.
Patrick Corbin (14-6) ended a three-game losing streak while improving to 2-0 in three starts at Dodger Stadium. The left-hander allowed one run and eight hits in 6...
Matt Kemp has aggravated his hamstring while trying to rehabilitate his injured ankle according to Kevin J Wells of The Washington Times. He suffered from the hamstring back on May 29th in Anaheim, and has only played in 11 games since.
While running the bases in a rehab outing, Kemp felt tightness in his hamstring. The Dodgers have shut him down indefinitely, which this late...
Hyun-Jin Ryu should be able to make his scheduled start Wednesday against Arizona according to Andy Call of MLB.com.
Kemp strained his right hamstring Friday during a rehab workout session giving him 10 days after his most recent injury.
"If he can play, we can activate him, but he has to be able to play," Mattingly said.
Kemp hasn't played for the Dodgers...
PHOENIX -- It is impossible to define exactly when the NL West began its complete 180 from in the Diamondbacks' control to in that of the Dodgers. The season is too long. The factors too numerous. But June 11 might be a place to start. The benches-cleaning brawl between the D-backs and Dodgers that night seemed to change the complexion of the division, the relationship between...
The Los Angeles Dodgers are nearing a five-year, $32MM contract with top Cuban infield prospect Alexander Guerrero according to the latest update from Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com. The official announcement should come within the next day or so.
The Dodgers have long been the favorites to sign him, dating back to July 23, when news broke that the Dodgers had signed Guerrero to a seven...
The Los Angeles Dodgers are closing in on clinching the NL West title just as the rival San Francisco Giants are coming to town.
The Dodgers lost 4-1 to Arizona on Wednesday night, leaving their magic number at six and their lead at 12 games over the Diamondbacks.
Los Angeles will start Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw in the first two games against the Giants.
What happened at Dodger Stadium on Monday night was as remarkable as any throw made by Yasiel Puig this season or any line drive hit by Hanley Ramirez.
Juan Uribe took a curtain call.
After Uribe hit his career-high third home run in the Dodgers' 8-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks the same fans who constantly booed him over the last two seasons insisted he come out of...

Juan Uribe's staggering offensive display has the Los Angeles Dodgers untracked.
Trevor Cahill is looking to slow them down again.
Uribe and the NL West-leading Dodgers attempt to beat Cahill for the first time and extend their longest winning streak over the Arizona Diamondbacks in over three years Tuesday night.

LOS ANGELES -- Pinch-hitter Scott Van Slyke's two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning gave the Los Angeles Dodgers a 5-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night.
Van Slyke lined the homer off Josh Collmenter (4-3) into the lower left field seats, scoring Mark Ellis who singled just ahead of Van Slyke.
