Found September 10, 2013 on Reading Between The Seams:
Australia has produced 31 MLB Players Continuing a tradition of starting the regular season in emerging baseball hotspots like Japan, Puerto Rico, and Mexico, Major League Baseball plans to continue its global marketing in the Pacific Rim by starting the 2014 season in Sydney, Australia.  Major League  Baseball released their 2014 schedule for all teams on Tuesday, and is starting the season in the Land Down Under with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks.  The two National League West rivals (currently first and second in the division) will square off a week before the rest of the teams, on March 22 and 23 at historic Sydney Cricket Ground, which seats 47,000.  While we think of venerable stadiums like Fenway Park (1912) and Wrigley Field (1914) as old, the SCG is 26 years older than that, hosting athletic events since 1886!  And it was built in 1851! The rest of baseball will open on Monday, March 31, with a Sunday Night Baseball game (teams TBD) on March 30.  Don’t count on it being the Houston Astros hosting the Sunday Night opener again this year.  The Astros will open with the New York Yankees, the team they finish 2013 with (potential last baseball games for Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, and Mariano Rivera each in their own way). I guess it’s a little early to get excited about the 2014 season with the 2013 pennant race in full swing, but as they say in baseball “wait ’til next year”! - David Whitlock Be sure to like our Facebook Page Or follow us on Twitter - David Whitlock Follow @lhd_on_sports - Blog Follow @RBTS_baseball - Sports-Kings Follow @realsportskings The post 2014 MLB schedule opens in Australia with Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks appeared first on Reading Between The Seams.

Ricky Nolasco gives the Dodgers a bonafide No. 3 starter for the playoffs

When the Dodgers traded for Ricky Nolasco, I wasn't particularly a fan of the move. They didn't give up a lot of value and talent for him, but I just didn't see the fit. I'm happy to say I was completely wrong (not the first time, certainly not the last). Nolasco improved to 8-1 as a Dodger on Monday night by shutting down the soon-to-be-eliminated-from-division...

Kemp is rehabbing at the Dodgers' minor league facility in Glendale, Ariz., and took 10 swings in a simulated game on Tuesday. Mattingly said Kemp had six hits, four...

Is that a pot leaf on MLB player's hat?

Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Juan Uribe had one of the best nights of his 12-year career on Monday. The 34-year-old hit three home runs to lead LA to an 8-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Naturally, reporters were itching to speak with him after the game. They got their wish and them some. While […]

A Cutting Edge Stars Bat Slice From Matt Kemp and 2013 Bowman Platinum

I recently landed one of the most aesthetically-pleasing cards I own. From 2013 Bowman Platinum, it's a Cutting Edge Stars bat slice from The Bison, #'d 04/50.My newest Mattycakes was had via eBay for just $8.14 delivered, a surprisingly low sum. I really dig the die-cut design and the fact that Topps went with a piece of bat rather than a simple jersey swatch.

Ryu touched up in loss to Diamondbacks

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Paul Goldschmidt went 4 for 5 and drove in a pair of runs to help the Arizona Diamondbacks beat Los Angeles 4-1 Wednesday night, snapping a five-game skid against the Dodgers and avoiding a sweep. Patrick Corbin (14-6) ended a three-game losing streak while improving to 2-0 in three starts at Dodger Stadium. The left-hander allowed one run and eight hits in 6...

He suffered from the hamstring back on May 29th in Anaheim, and has only played in 11 games since. While running the bases in a rehab outing, Kemp felt tightness in his hamstring. Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu to start; Chris Capuano moves forward

Hyun-Jin Ryu should be able to make his scheduled start Wednesday against Arizona according to Andy Call of MLB.com. Kemp strained his right hamstring Friday during a rehab workout session giving him 10 days after his most recent injury. "If he can play, we can activate him, but he has to be able to play," Mattingly said. Kemp hasn't played for the Dodgers...

June 11: The day the NL West changed

PHOENIX -- It is impossible to define exactly when the NL West began its complete 180 from in the Diamondbacks' control to in that of the Dodgers. The season is too long. The factors too numerous. But June 11 might be a place to start. The benches-cleaning brawl between the D-backs and Dodgers that night seemed to change the complexion of the division, the relationship between...

Juan Uribe hits three home runs in Dodgers' 8-1 win over Diamondbacks

What happened at Dodger Stadium on Monday night was as remarkable as any throw made by Yasiel Puig this season or any line drive hit by Hanley Ramirez. Juan Uribe took a curtain call. After Uribe hit his career-high third home run in the Dodgers' 8-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks the same fans who constantly booed him over the last two seasons insisted he come out of...
