Found August 24, 2012 on Burning River Baseball:
Roster Update: The man that we at Burning River Baseball refer to as "Hero" is back on the team in hopes of bringing some offensive power. Matt LaPorta was called up for Columbus and Frank Herrmann was sent back down. Player of the Game C.C. Sabathia tried to hit Asdrubal Cabrera for retaliation of an event that occurred earlier in the game, but missed completely and threw a ball. On the very next pitch, Cabrera hit the ball out of the ballpark, giving him enough points to win tonight's Player of the Game. Asdrubal Cabrera now has 8 awards on the season. Feathers Up Corey Kluber had a solid outing. He only went 5 innings and gave up 6 hits, but he limited the damage by striking out 6 and giving up just one run. Hit Streak Update: In the midst of their second long losing streak, Carlos Santana has managed to hit in 7 straight games. Feathers Down Not everyone can be perfect, and young reliever, Cody Allen, learned that today. Allen gave up his first earne...

Indians’ Paul Dolan: I Don’t Know What Happened to This Team

This has been the most difficult stretch we’ve had as owners. At the end of July, we were in the playoffs or on the verge of the playoffs having just beat [Detroit starter Justin] Verlander, then it all fell apart. We have to understand what happened and I’m not going to make judgments on [the future of the front office] right now. But it’s certainly been a very, very difficult...

GM Antonetti: 2012 Indians a disappointment

General manager Chris Antonetti agrees with Cleveland fans: The 2012 Indians are very disappointing. Antonetti said Friday nothing can be done about two long losing streaks that dropped Cleveland from 2 1/2 games out in the AL Central to fourth place and 14 1/2 behind. He said many factors contributed, but wants to finish strong. Cleveland recalled first baseman-outfielder Matt...

The Indians are going to trade Shin-Soo Choo this offseason

The headline seems like a rather obvious statement, but this Jon Heyman piece on CBS Sports seems to confirm what we all knew: the Indians are going to listen for offers on outfielder Shin-Soo Choo this offseason, and with his unwillingness to negotiate a contract extension, it seems likely that he's going to get moved. The 30-year old Choo isn't a superstar, but he...

Yankees Game 125: CC And Swisher Set Things Right

New York Yankees 3 — Cleveland Indians 1   Nick Swisher was the entire Yankees offense in CC’s return to the mound in tonight’s 3-1 win over the Cleveland Indians.   CC Sabathia made two returns. His return to Cleveland and his return from an elbow injury. The injury seemed to be non-existent as he went 7.1 strong innings on 100 pitches. He would have all of his pitches...

While We’re Waiting… THE INDIANS WIN!

So *this* is what good pitching is like: “If you need to snap a losing streak, call Justin Masterson. The side-winding right hander pitched into the seventh inning, stifling the New York Yankees and snapping the Indians’ nine game losing streak, winning 3-1 in front of a crowd of 34,374. Masterson used big relief appearances by Vinnie Pestano and Chris Perez to best veteran...

Derek Jeter responds to Skip Bayless comparing his performance this season and baseball’s dirt tests

Yankees superstar Derek Jeter laughed off Skip Bayless’ First Take dialog on Jeter’s bounce back performance this season in the shadow of 2 suspensions for use of a performance-enhancing-drug (PEDS.) Skip lowkey insinuated that there’s no way Jeter couldn’t have at least considered taking the drug at 39 years old. “What do you want me [...]

Ivan Nova Headed to the DL

New York Yankees starting pitcher, Ivan Nova, has been placed on the 15 day disabled list. A report from Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York indicated that Nova did pitch with tightness in his right shoulder on Tuesday night against the Chicago White Sox.  An MRI later revealed that the right-hander is suffering from inflammation in his right rotator cuff. Nova (11-7) has been hit...

Skip Bayless accusations shouldn't surprise us

Skip Bayless accused Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter of using PEDs on Wednesday's "First Take." Yes, the guy we expect to take off-the-wall shots at athletes did exactly what we expected of him.But did Bayless finally cross that line between having insider knowledge and breaking a potential news story or just plain crazy talk? If you're a Yankees fan, you might be...

A Bit Of Perspective

Just because Michael Pineda is 65 pounds overweight, and just because he likes to get drunk every night while working out, doesn't mean he is not worth the king's ransom in kind and in salary we dealt for him.He is, my sources say, the most interesting overnight guest in the Palm County jail.A great joke teller.                                       ...

Rather than being snubbed as Michael Corleone, will Derek Jeter win his first MVP as Colonel Frank Slade?

In the same week he was loosely questioned about using performance-enhancing drugs by renowned sports journalist and television personality Skip Bayless, speculation is mounting that legendary New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter may finally earn his first American League Most … Continue reading →

More reasons to hate ESPN: Skip Bayless (aka Ass Clown)

Ass-Clown! ((ht: This is a little bit of a rant and goes somewhat counter to what we want to say here because we know that any acknowledgement of the existence of Pond Scum like Skip Bayless just makes ESPN more eager to keep him on TV. The latest reason that the man has no business on TV or arguably reporting period is this: He makes a random comment about...

Derek Jeter suggests Skip Bayless should be tested for PEDs

The comments Skip Bayless made on Wednesday about Derek Jeter were nothing more than Skip being Skip. His job is to create buzz and say extremely controversial things, and he may have outdone himself by insinuating that it’s possible Jeter has been able to continue playing at such a high level because of performance-enhancing drug use. “I would have to be sight- and hearing-impaired...

Jeter brushes off PED hypothetical

Derek Jeter brushed off comments by ESPN analyst Skip Bayless, who raised the possibility the star shortstop may have revived his career by taking Human Growth Hormone.
