Player of the Game This game was Swishalicious, Bro! With a sweet RBI double and monster home run to left, Bro-hio's own, Nick Swisher won tonight's Player of the Game, Dude. The award is his eighth of the season and his first in the Indians last 18 games. Feathers Up Corey Kluber returned from the DL today, just in time to take Justin Masterson's place in the rotation. Despite having the same injury as Zach McAllister (a sprained middle finger), Kluber spent almost a month less time on the DL. The Indians offense made Kluber's return a little easier by giving him a big lead early in the game. For the Tribe, the first five batters reached base safely (four hits and an error), before Asdrubal Cabrera popped out. With two already in and the bases loaded, Ryan Raburn came through with a bases clearing double that raised the difference to 5-0. Mike Aviles then hit an infield single before Drew Stubbs hit into a double play, but only after all nine batters...

Cleveland Indians: Key players to watch down the stretch

As the month of August dragged on, it looked as if the Cleveland Indians were going to spoil all of the city’s optimism – yet again – by experiencing yet another late-season fade into obscurity. The Tribe posted a 12-16 overall record for the month. Seven days into the final month of the regular season, however, the Indians have now won four out of their last five. The Wahoos...

Brantley on leave for birth of child

Indians outfielder Michael Brantley has returned to his home in West Palm Beach, Fla., to be with wife Melissa for the birth of their first child. Manager Terry Francona isn't sure how long Brantley, the Indians' everyday left fielder, will be away from the club. Brantley is batting .278 with eight home runs, 59 RBIs and 15 stolen bases in 132 games. Brantley was in the...

Cabrera, Swisher power Tribe to win

The Cleveland Indians have found their stride again. Perfect timing, too. Asdrubal Cabrera hit a three-run homer, Nick Swisher had a solo shot and the surging Indians beat the New York Mets 9-4 on Saturday night. Cleveland has won four in a row for the first time since it captured eight straight from July 24-Aug. 1. Swisher finished with two hits and two RBIs as the Indians stayed...

Kazmir pitches Indians to 8-1 win

Scott Kazmir struck out a season-high 12 in six innings, Nick Swisher hit a grand slam and the Cleveland Indians continued their playoff push with an 8-1 win over the New York Mets on Friday night. Kazmir (8-7) struck out at least one batter in each inning, including the side in the first, third and sixth. The left-hander, who has been pushed back in the rotation for extra rest...

Young Indians fan returns to get home run balls

Niko Lanzarotta is becoming a fixture at Progressive Field. And that's just fine with the Cleveland Indians. The 8-year-old Indians fan with cerebral palsy had a special wish granted last month at the ballpark and returned to see his favorite team play the New York Mets on Saturday. Before the July 24 game against Minnesota, he asked Indians catcher Carlos Santana - his favorite...

Indians down Mets 9-4 for fourth straight win

Cleveland, OH -- Cleveland struck for five runs in the first inning, establishing a lead they would maintain for the entire game, as the Indians beat the New York Mets 9-4 Saturday night. The Tribe has now won four in a row for the first time since winning eight straight from July 24 to Aug. 1.  Cleveland began the day just two games back of Tampa Bay for the second American League...

Mets may have seen something when they traded Kazmir

The Mets come into Cleveland tonight for a three game series against the Indians beginning with an interesting pitching matchup to kick things off.  23-year-old Zach Wheeler of the Mets faces 29-year-old Scott Kazmir in a duel of present and former top pitching prospects.  Wheeler — called up in June — is showing fans the talent and promise that made him so highly touted....

Tribe Happenings: Indians are winning, but lack connection

Some news, notes and thoughts from my Indians notebook… A serious disconnect The Cleveland Browns kickoff their season today. I’m a huge Browns fan and will certainly be watching their game (I have season tickets), but you better believe that I will be paying just as much attention to the happenings down the street at the Corner of Carnegie and Ontario. These are the days where...

Series Preview: Royals at Indians 9/9-11

While the Indians were able to win their series against the lowly Mets, they were unable to maintain the one game distance between them and the Wild Card leading Rays when they lost the final game. A sweep was well within reach, but things slipped away in the final inning Sunday afternoon. The Indians will stay in Cleveland for one more series as they move on to face the Kansas...

MMN Prospect Time Machine: Scott Kazmir

After Yusmeiro Petit‘s dominant one-hitter for the San Francisco Giants this week, I was planning on putting the spotlight on him for this week’s time machine. However, Scott Kazmir faced the organization that drafted him for the first time in his career, and looked pretty good. He won for the first time since August 4th, allowing just four hits, no walks, and 12 strikeouts in...

The Scrapperbook: 2013 season in review

The 2013 Mahoning Valley Scrappers were defined by a couple of overriding themes: a lack of offense, dominant pitching, and a killer 12-game losing streak during which seemingly nothing went write for the boys of Niles, Ohio. That 12-game stretch began on the backside of a doubleheader with the Jamestown Jammers on July 3rd and lasted until July 15th in a contest with the Vermont...

Royals-Indians Preview

Wild card fever is beginning to descend upon Cleveland. Two of the contenders for the AL's second wild-card spot meet Monday night as the Cleveland Indians open a critical three-game series with the Kansas City Royals. Kansas City (75-68) moved within 1 1/2 games of Cleveland and 3 1/2 behind Tampa Bay for the final postseason position with a 5-2 victory over Detroit Sunday...
