In 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous "I have a dream" speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. Twenty-five years later, the Tampa Bay Rays appear to be on the verge of defeating the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS. The BoSox are historically a very white team (they were the last team to integrate) and currently have just six minorities on their roster, and just one in their starting lineup. The Rays meanwhile, have eleven minorities, and start six ...

O'Neil, there's only 8% blacks in the major leagues. Boston was also the first NBA team to have a black player. They had the greatest team in history in 1986 with two thirds of their team being white. They were coached by a black man. The state of Massachusetts has a black governor and the Tampa Bay Rays come from the racist south. They are still fighting the Civil war in Tampa. We cheered this years Celtics team just as loud as we cheered that predominantly white team in 1986. If the Red Sox were predominantly black we would still sell out Fenway park and cheer just as loud for them. It doesn't matter what color you are in Boston. You don't need to write something like that.

why is race always brought into sports??? It doesnt make sense. I remember those claims last year about Boston being a racist town because the team was mostly black. Well I live in Boston, I dont see anything going on thats not right. And plus, this thing is getting old, sports should be about the game not how black, or white people there are. Just a few minutes ago, I was on the Rays messageboard, and was reading claims about the Sox and how there arnt alot of white people in it...
      How Ells is indian
      Lowell is Cuban
      Majority of Hispanics
      And just some caucasian players...

I didnt kno that in sports it mattered.

Anyways, Dynasty, I agree with u.. you dont see that many blacks in the MLB. And seeing as to Boston's history, with black coaches/players I dont see why this talk seems to come up so much. I didnt see a decrease in cheering for Pierce, or KG, or basically the whole C's team last year just becuase they were all black...
