Pac-10 vs. SEC

There have been some interesting conference match-ups this year, but none more interesting than the old vs. the new. The SEC is arguably the oldest power conference in the land, while the Pac-10 is gaining prominence with recent performances of USC, Cal, and Oregon. This season, the Pac-10 has not fared particularly well against the SEC, with Cal getting plastered in the opener at Tennessee, but if you are comparing the two conferences, you must compare the different landscapes. There is nothing more important to SEC fans than SEC football; it is their foremost sporting experience. Meanwhile, on the west coast, many fans are not die-hard and only enthralled with the Pac-10 football scene. Many fans are bandwagoners, frontrunners, and the like. I mean, how many USC fans were there during their mediocre years pre-Pete Carroll? Now it's like everybody has always rooted for USC, but anyway, there is a difference of culture between the two and that is what sets them apart the most.
