2009 Cubs UZR

Fangraphs has now updated their UZR for 2009. Here are the Cubs players from best to worst with the UZR/150 in parentheses. Mike Fontenot (31.7) Milton Bradley (19.5) Aramis Ramirez (8.2) Joey Gathright (6.9) Kosuke Fukudome (5) Reed Johnson, CF (3.6) Derrek Lee (3.2) Alfonso Soriano (2) Reed Johnson, LF (0.9) Aaron Miles (0) Ryan Theriot (-17.6) This is 5 games so it’s...

Ryan Theriot is in no way whatsoever to blame for the result of the Cubs and Brewers game tonight

Similar to last night, the Cubs pissed away scoring opportunities most of the night. Derrek Lee and Milton Bradley continue to struggle at the plate and despite the team’s 3/4 hitters struggling as they are, the Cubs are still averaging 5.2 runs per game. Considering the struggles of 2 of the team’s best hitters, that’s impressive. It’s only 5 games and...

Bradley Out for Monday

According to a report in the Tribune, Milton Bradley will miss the Cubs' home opener on Monday and is officially listed as day-to-day. Bradley strained his right groin going from second to third during the fourth inning of Sunday night's game.

Bradley Out Three to Five Days

According to multiple reports on Monday afternoon, including one from Jim Hendry on Sports Central, Milton Bradley will be sidelined for the next three to five days. With Tuesday being an off day, Bradley could return to the lineup at some point during the Cardinals series.

Cubs 8-5 Brewers, Cubs took 10 walks

Not much to say. Ryan Demspter couldn’t throw strikes. He managed to pitch innings and allow 4 runs. Would have been more it if weren’t for a grand slam saving catch by Reed Johnson who replaced Milton Bradley who has a left groin strain. Marshall and Marmol pitched the 7th and 8th innings and Gregg allowed a run in the 9th (home run by Weeks). It wasn’t...

Milton Bradley Wouldn’t Have Made That Catch

Reed Johnson made a filthy catch last night, saving a Grand Slam and possibly the game for the Cubbies.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY CAN BE LEARNED FROM REED JOHNSON

The Tao has a good post up about Reed Johnson and his, let's be kind, seemingly diminishing utility to the Blue Jays and how it ties in with signing of Shannon Stewart as outfield insurance. It's as good a time as any to 'fess up to maybe getting the numbers upside-down and backwards with Johnson last...

Cubs Lineup If They Play (Maybe They Shouldn't)

Update: Yes, this would not only be Fontenot's first-ever start at 3B, it would be the first time he has ever played the position in the majors. From what I can tell, he played some third in '05 at Iowa, but other than that, it has been all shortstop and second base. Gordon Witternmyer tweets that, according to Lou Piniella, Milton Bradley is feeling better, but Aramis...

Game 5 Recap (Sort Of): Cubs 6, Brewers 5

All I'm going to say about this victory is, Alfonso Soriano reminded us why it's worth having a left fielder who can't actually field, Kosuke Fukudome continues his drive to be christened "Mr. April," and Carlos Marmol, who is officially NOT the Cubs closer, made our opponents' best hitters look helpless in a way that the guy who is our closer never, ever could.

Ronny Cedeno was known as a dumb player

One of the things that I have occasionally thought about is that Cubs fans, and the media, called Ronny Cedeno a dumb player. I’m sure I’ve done the same thing as well, but it was after a dumb play. Why is Ryan Theriot not referred to as a dumb player by the same fans? He is undoubtedly more useless on defense, and not much more valuable on offense. The simple fact...
