I was reading through Tom Hoffarth's Farther Off the Wall blog today when I saw an item about how Al Michaels once played a lawyer on the old show "Hawaii Five-O". Apparently Al was working for the Padres' AAA team, the Hawaiian Islanders, when he was asked to make a cameo during the show.
"I got the gig because the Hawaii Five-0 folks were filling some cameo roles with people who were on television in Hawaii at that time, and I think I got paid something like a hundred bucks," Michaels told us in an email. "I told Colin [Shrutebag] that I recently got a residual check for 87 cents.

Yes, it was during the period I was broadcasting Islander games. And every couple of months someone will stop me and say, 'Hey, was that you on 'Hawaii Five-0'? I had about seven lines that got edited down to two when the show aired. Never got an Emmy nomination, though."
I was of course intrigued by all of this information, so I went out searching for the announcer's thespian debut and found this stellar piece acting from the NBC broadcaster....

Not bad, but I'll take his cameo in Baseketball any day of the week. Oh and here's an interesting fact as well, not only was "Run, Johnny, Run" Al's acting debut, but it was also featured an appearance by a young Christopher Walken. Good times and you learn something new everyday, right?

Going, Going, Gonzo!

Padres fans can at least cheer about one thing this time of year, and that is the hitting display being put on by 1B Adrian Gonzalez. Last week he hit 3 HRs and knocked in 11 RBIs while hitting for a... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

Two for Tonight...

1) As I have written about before, I have bad luck with Ranger jerseys. I currently own no jerseys of anyone on the team. I bought a Pavel Bure jersey when he was injured and he didn't return (it's a Russian jersey). I got an Eric Lindros one and then he got injured on a cheap shot by Jason Doig (currently a scrub in the Swiss leagues). He never returned as a Ranger and went...

They Didn't Screw It Up!

I'm almost shocked. The Islanders actually did the right thing. And quite frankly, we fans deserve the right to say that.Is Scott Gordon an upgrade over Ted Nolan? That remains to be seen. But at this point, it would certainly seem that Gordon is a better fit for this group of players. I guess that's all you can ask for in a coach. The Islanders got that, and perhaps much...

Countdown to Epic Fail: T-Minus 3 … 2

With the Nats on the cusp of their first 100-loss season, we will countdown to the momentous occasion here after each loss leading up to the milestone. Swept by the fucking Padres, worst record in baseball, 100 loss mission nearly accomplished. At least Odalis is happy. Previously: 14 ? 13 ? 12 ? 11 ? 10 ? [...]
