According to ESPN.com, the Red Sox have made Jason Varitek a one year offer worth an undisclosed amount. Varitek is coming off his worst offensive year hitting .220 with 13 HR in 131 games. The Red Sox reportedly are pursuing other options, eyeing Rangers catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia or Gerald Laird. Not many teams are interested in Varitek, 37, but he will likely get picked up...

There is a great deal of speculation that the Mets were dissatisfied with the catcher's position last year. Reading in-between-the-lines it appears that most of the disappointment is directed at Brian Schneider. Since Omar was Schneider's GM in Montreal I'm not sure if his game has changed that ...
