If you don't have skin in the game -- which is to say, at least serious money, but more likely a longtime love for the Red Sox, Rays, Dodger or Phillies laundry -- just how are you supposed to actually watch playoff baseball?I'll let you into an inside glimpse of the miraculous life of the off-time sports blogger here, folks... it doesn't always work in real time, or in an efficient way. Sometimes, I get wiped out while writing and pass out. Which is what happened on Saturday night, after I did the Shooter Dad thing, then came back down to the Man Cave. I woke up as the Rays got to work in the bottom of the twelfth, with BJ Upton's pop up scoring the winning run.So that game started at 8pm EST, and ended past 1:30am. Now, I don't know about you, but I'm not sure if I've ever watched anything that took five and a half hours that didn't involve the birth of my kid, or perhaps experimental German cinema, or... well, nope. I got nothing. Now, if you are in...

Charlie make a change; Cole step up!

After Moyer's Game 3 melt-down, I have no confidence in Moyer to be a starter in this series. He was the rock on our team for so much of this season. I still want him around and pitch in relief mode, if needed. But, he would be the scheduled starter for game 7 if it came to that. This cannot happen. I know Blanton is scheduled to start tonight's game, but I think Charlie...

Stone Cold Matt Stairs

Dodgers fans shouldn't be sad Stairs kicked their ass. They should be glad he didn't kill them!

Rays Take 2-1 Lead in ALCS

I don't have any particularly intelligent idea for the format here, so I'm just going to start writing and see what happens.-Before the game, the entire TBS pregame crew came to an agreement that Jon Lester is the best pitcher in baseball. No seriously, this actually happened. I have a feeling that's the last time that will come up for awhile.-Having Howell pitch the...

Victorino is no Hollywood hero

LOS ANGELES - He runs his pregame sprints, they boo. He trots out to his spot in centerfield, they boo some more. He walks to the plate, they really, really boo. Shane Victorino is Manny East. Or maybe he is Manny West. He is the player Dodgers fans love to hate, lust to boo, in a way Philly fans know too well. They were booing him from the start of this series, long...

Rays Have Their Hands Full This Afternoon

On Saturday night the Rays survived a slugfest deep into the night to even up the season and give them hope. They did so behind massive efforts from their bullpen including Dan Wheeler and they benefited from drilling Jonathan Papelbon and forcing him out after an inning and a third. Had they lost their names could effectively be etched on a tombstone, but now they have life they...

Calls of the Game

Where's The Love For Rays -- In Tampa Bay?

I was talking the other day to a colleague of mine in television production. During a lull in our activity, the talk turned to the ongoing MLB playoffs -- specifically, the Cinderella Tampa Bay Rays. Neither of us are fans of theirs, it turns out. While he couldn't really pinpoint the reason why he's not on the TB bandwagon, I offered a suggestion. "The fans there...

Please allow Lloyd to make a case for Rocco: Comeback Player of the Year. On Monday night, the American League Comeback Player of the Year hit [...]

Tiger Woods roots for Dodgers, violates Nike contract

Many people have been wondering what Tiger Woods has been up to since he's not playing golf. Well, it turns out he's relaxing while his knee heals, impregnating his wife, and watching the Dodgers, as seen here during Sunday's Game 3 against the Phillies. It's understandable that Tiger would be a Dodgers fan, seeing as he [...]

Phillies and Dodgers like to empty their benches after playing beanball

I think I might just post videos all day as this weekend had so many great moments. Here is the altercation between the Phillies and Dodgers that had Manny Ramirez all riled up after Shane Victorino and Hiroki Kuroda exchanged words after the top half inning was over. Victorino has found himself in the middle of a couple of these altercations. Just a couple of weeks ago he got into...

Matt Stairs Says He Likes To Get His Ass Hammered

Yeah, he may have completely sunk the Dodgers' playoff dreams, but at least none of the Dodger players admit to getting their ass hammered and liking it. "'You want to get that one big hit where you feel like you're part of the team,' Stairs said. 'Not that I don't feel like I'm part of the team, by no means, but when you get that nice celebration...

Game chat: Moyer, Kuroda duel at Chavez Ravine

The National League Championship Series shifts to Los Angeles tonight where the Phillies try to take a commanding 3-0 lead against the Dodgers. First pitch is 8:22 ET on Fox. Lineups have been posted: As he's done throughout the season, manager Charlie Manuel gives the nod to glove man Pedro Feliz, who gets the start behind Moyer despite right-hander Hiroki Kuroda going for LA...

Rays flip the script, regain homefield advantage

Rays 9, Sox 1 WP: Garza (1-1) LP: Lester (1-1) HRs: BOS-None; TB-Upton (5), Longoria (4), Baldelli (1) Summary: Tampa Bay tattooed Sox starter Jon Lester, ripping the lefty for five runs and a pair of homers in the first three innings, and Rays starter Matt Garza held the Boston lineup in check as the Rays took a 2-1 [...]

No more free frames for this Sox fan

On the heels of last night's excruciating, agonizing, 5+ hour,A 9-8A eleven inning loss to the Rays in Game 2 of the ALCS, I have come to a decision regarding my viewing habits for extra inning Red Sox games: I'm changing the channel after nine innings are completed, regardless of the score, and well before Mike Timlin takes [...]
