As of now, he's pretty much the only offensive threat in that lineup.

  • Hey, you have to start somewhere. This guy plays hard. I like it.
  • I like Rowand too, but he's not a centerpiece and he's on the wrong side of 30. I also am curious to see the dollar figures of the deal as well.
  • yeah, I'm hoping they didn't overpay for him. plus, a five year deal -- I'm hoping they paid him no more than 12 mil / year, and even that'd be steep. apparently he wanted 70 over five years from the Phillies, so I'm really hoping they didn't pay more than that -- though I'm sure they probably did.
  • 5 yrs 60 mil.

  • Call me crazy, but 12 mil is not bad for a guy that hit .309 with 27 homers, 89 RBI's and 105 runs. He is easily the best player on the Giants and came much cheaper than Torri Hunter, who is going to do around the same thing for 18 mil a year.
  • that was a career year...which means he probably won't top that....torii is a bigger influence in the clubhouse.
  • Well, in 2004, he hit .310 with 24 homers, 69 rbi's (out of the leadoff spot), 94 runs scored and 17 stolen bases. So he has two career years. Torii Hunter is two years older as well.
  • this is a great deal by GM Brian Sabean because now the Giants can hold on to Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum. Rowand is just as productive as Alex Rios as well.
  • Disagree. Rios has been getting better and better for three years. And he's only 27. I think Rios is capable of consistently putting up .300 30 HR 110 RBI 120 runs 30 SB

I agree with yaddayadda, Rowand had a career year. Still, with salaries as crazy as they are, $12 million is a good deal. He plays the game hard and that carries a certain value that stats don't show.
  • you cannot call it a "career year" until he has done worse than the previous year. He can potentially be on the upswing as Rios is.
  • So much for teaching our children to play "like Aaron Rowand does" anymore.....Now I can teach them to play like Jason Werth does? When Philladelphia teams let Blue Collar guys like Aarond Rowand go, you know it's always about the dollars....
  • Giants finally do something good in the offseason!
  • i'm excited. then again I was excited when they signed Barry Zito...
  • Sabean over pays as usual. No surprise there.
  • Is it just me but I think that this deal will be a bust, come on he came from Philidelphia a great hitting park and now to San Francisco a great pitcher park.
  • It is a good pickup...but Rowand will have to hit in a pitcher's ballpark now...so his numbers may drop some...but I think his sb's may pick up.
  • losin a guy like this hurts, but SF made out with a class pro. Just look at that pic. He puts himself out there for his team at all costs.

You can't buy FireKennyWilliams.com because MLB already bought it

With the White Sox having a lousy season in 2007 and a disappointing offseason so far, you'd figure that the domain FireKennyWilliams.com would be taken already. But would you guess that Major League Baseball was the domain's owner?
