TEAMS: Los Angeles Angels, Cincinnati Reds
Believe it or not the Reds couldn't pull off a deal with Bobby Abreu (they weren't trying), but the Angels could! Same Angels who have about $45 million invested in 4 outfielders already.
With Abreu signing for $5 million plus incentives I have to keep goin back to amount of money wasted by the Reds just this off season.
David Weathers $3.5 Million
Willy Taveras $2.25 Million
Jerry Hairston Jr. $2 million
Mike Lincoln $1.5 million
Arthur Rhodes could be on that list with $2 million also, but if used correctly and is productive when used correctly he is going to be fine.
I keep hearing about how great a GM Walt Jocketty is, but I'm just not seeing it. Now maybe if this is a part of a plan to have the Reds be so bad that they have no option but to fire Dusty Baker that would be great, but we all know Dusty will blame it on not having the true slugging outfielder that he pretty much despises, and that will deflect the attention off him and won't get him fired.
Then, he and, I but, we or, the sentence long

Bobby Abreu reached a one-year deal for just $5 million plus incentives with the Los Angeles Angels. As good as that deal may sound, it?s probably still too much money for him. Here are some other articles I?ve written on Abreu?s value.

Yankees Not Offering Abreu Arbitration a Bad Call
This has been an off-season where Bobby Abreu has had to swallow much of his pride. First he came out looking for a three-year $48 million deal before setting his expectations a bit lower looking for a three-year $30 million deal.
Now it appears he is being forced to settle for a little over $5 million [...]
Angels Waive Green, Abreu Coming?
The Angels have waived pitching prospect Nick Green, 24, who went 8-8 with a 5.32 ERA in 28 games at Triple-A. The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster, possibly for an outfielder. ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick is reporting that the Angels and Bobby Abreu are in serious discussions concerning a one year deal. Abreu could be the biggest steal this offseason, and the Angels jumped...
Angels Sign Bobby Abreu
Further proof that the White Sox offering Abreu a contract was nothing more than Abreu's agent trying to stir up interest. Sure, he turned down 1-year $8 million with the Sox, but he took 1-year $5 million with the Angels. That makes

Points of Concern
Some thoughts prompted by the image to the right.
1) Pitchers and catchers officially report tomorrow.
2) During the winter, the Mets completely retooled their bullpen, and have some legit contenders for the end of the rotation. It appears that the 2009 version of this team is going to depend on well-played, defensive, low-scoring games that are [...]
Remember That Catcher Dude We Have?
A couple weeks ago, when I read that the Red Sox had agreed to give Varitek $5 million with a $5 million club option for 2010*, I actually cackled aloud. "Bobby Abreu can't find a job and this chump gets $5 mil?!"Then I remembered that the Yankees have a similarly well-loved but aging catcher on their books, and they're paying him a hell of a lot more than that...
