Angles ace John Lackey is not likely to make his Opening Day start. He has currently been shut down due to tightness and inflammation in his right forearm. According to MLB.com, Lackey experienced the tightness during a 90-pitch outing on Sunday against the Royals. It was also reported that he was a little tight after playing catch on Thursday and this was what made the team decide to shut him down for the time being. The team’s Orthopedist is supposed to be at camp n Saturday to examine Lackey’s MRI results. The Oakland A’s will likely begin season without ace Justin Duchscherer. He started his first game of the in a minor league game and was scheduled to throw 35-40 pitches, according to the AP. This was cut short due to elbow pain that he has experienced this spring. He says his arm still is not right. A’s GM Billy Beane made it clear it was not for sure he would begin the season on the DL, but he also said he was very likely. Tigers relief pitcher Joel Zumaya will likely not begin the season in Detroit. Zumaya has only pitched in one game so far this spring, but felt soreness after his one appearance on March 2nd. Zumaya was in the running for the closer job this year, but he is once again being slowed down by injuries, as he has in the past.
