Andruw Jones Blasts Longest HR ever at Petco

'The Longest Homerun Ever..." is always a fun thing to track. The HR hit off of Chan Ho Park was believed to have traveled 458 feet, 20 feet further than the previous best set by Mark Bellhorn.

Jones now has 22 HR and 78 RBI on the season and is proving his 51 HR campaign in 2005 is no fluke. He now has a homerun in each of his last 4 games.

I didn't see tonights game, but I did watch last night's contest. Beyond seeing two teams with absolutely no pitching, the one thing that stuck out was one of Andruw Jones' AB's. The plate appearance ended with a single, but that wasn't the highlight. The impressive part was the most aggressive swing of all time that he took. Jones missed a fastball up in the zone, but in true swing for the fences fashion, he swung so hard his knee smashed to the ground and he whipped the bat around his body one handed a la Reggie Jackson. I thought to myself, I don't think I've seen someone swing that hard in a long time.

At the moment his average is .276. If he keeps swinging the bat at an all or nothing clip, it's possible this will drop, but at the same time, he's likely to keep pounding baseballs out of the yard. Expect big power numbers throughout the second half.
