The balance of power in baseball has just shifted folks. And, as a Red Sox fan, I am ashamed and saddened. Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com's Jayson Stark on Tuesday that Atlanta Braves first baseman Mark Teixeira is headed to the Los Angeles Angels for Casey Kotchman and minor league pitcher Steven Marek.

What does the state of Cal do to get these players. First Gasol, now Teixeira....WTF
  • Eh...he hasn't been that great since he went to Hotlanta.

Poor Teix he is becoming the Paris Hilton of the MLB. Everyone has had a piece of him.

  • Wow... Pelechati has some interesting 'taste'

My jaw dropped when I heard about this trade. I can NOT believe they got him so cheap. Unbelievable.

maybe it's just because I'm an angels fan, but it doesn't seem that "cheap" to me. They gave up a 24 year old, golf glove caliber first baseman who hits for good average and whose power is developing - and who is locked up in a cheap contract for a few more years- for a 2 month rental of teixeira before having to deal with boras for a new contract. With that said, I'm not terribly upset about this trade because it gives them the best shot to win the world series this year. And championships make all decisions good ones.

Eh, he doesn't even have an .800 OPS this year. He doesn't have any more power this year than last year either. I think he's borderline at his ceiling.

Great deal for the Angels. They already have the Yankees number and this just makes them even better. No one is going to miss Kotchman. The Stache is good, but not Texiera good.

Im a Braves fan... WTF Braves Management....We finally had a 1B that could consistently do Big Things (last 1B that did it big were the Big Cat Andres Galaragga and the Crime Dog Fred McGriff) Not surprised stupid new Gm would do that, I know Scheurholz wouldnt have pulled the trigger on this...Of course we get a defensive minded 1B, that really helps (I thought we were done with the adam laroches n scott thormans)...

and Teixiera has been amazing , I dont kno what some dude is saying up there.....Angels better do good especially after stealing Teixiera, Vladi probably poppin more illigitamte children that Torii Hunter be doing charity for.....Damnit John Lackey didnt get the no hitter against the Sox tonight.....

Teixeira is not that much of an upgrade over Kotchman. Especially when the Angels can lose him or pay him 140 million over the next 7 years. I'd prefer to keep Kotchman and spread that 20 million/per out over 6 or 7 players.

The Red Sox and Yankees are still playing this season?
  • DreadsSwayin
where would the red sox play him? it would be a waste of prospects because 1st base is probably there least needed position. maybe youk could go to 3rd but then where would lowell play. youk and lowell are both way to quality players and texeria would be a minimal upgrade and would cost a lot of prospects. so if your a red soc fan, the only reason you should be sad is now you guys really cant beat the angels.

The Yankees aren't weeping. Well not because of this trade, but the Orioles might have caused a little teary eye. And besides, for what the Braves where asking both the Red Sox and the Yankees, it wasn't worth it. Yankees need to be getting that other pitcher. They lost out on Rich Harden. The Red Sox, unless they trade Manny, there is no trade that will make them better.

the real losers in this deal is Atlanta. They gave up a kings ransom last year for Tex, and now they get Kotchman back, a guy who gets on base a lot and plays great defense but isn't a catalyst like Tex. As a Phillies fan I'm happy!
    • DreadsSwayin
yo true that, they gave up 7 prospects last year
  • Good move for the Braves, since they aren't going anywhere this year. Kotchman is younger, a better fielder and his hiting should tick upwards over the next few years. Atlanta will also have some payroll relief to pursue filling other needs.

but atlanta gave up so much more for him last year :(
  • phillyfan05
it was a great trade for both teams, the angels are now in a great spot to make it into the world series, and the braves dont have to worry about texeria's contract anymore. They got a great hitter in Kotchman who by the way hurts the phillies :(

Bottom of the ninth, Lidge on the mound, protecting a two run lead with runners on first and second. Who would you rather have up to bat: Casey Kotchman or Mark Teixeira?
