Acquiring Figgins and Molina would fill two huge holes on the Yankee bench. Miguel Cairo and Wil Nieves have given Joe Torre zero reason to pencil them in the lineup on anything more than an emergency-basis. Adding two serviceable bench players would allow the manager the luxury of resting his everyday players with more regularity. Trading Giambi would also open the DH spot for some of the aging legs in the outfield, providing more time for Melky Cabrera.

  • Not sure how I feel about this, but it probably doesn't matter. I can't see the Angels pulling the trigger on this anyway. It's not just a player swap, there's a lot of salary LA would have to deal with to take on Giambi, who is already starting to break down. Plus, Moreno wasn't happy about the Gary Matthews drama this past offseason. Why would they pay fair value for a guy with similar question marks.
  • Great point about Moreno...I thought the same thing. I think the sooner the Yanks end the Giambi-Era, the better, but it's tough to imagine it happening before 2009.

Reggie, Reggie

Our offense has been working really well and Reggie Willits has been a big part of that. When our offense is working it starts at the top. Vlady is great no matter what, but he is really dangerous with guys on base. We need to get runners on in front of him so that he can really do his damage. Reggie has been great getting on base and it has made a huge difference. We know that...

Giambi's Over the Speed Limit

First admissions to USA Today, then yesterday's rumored trade to the Angels, now this...Jason Giambi must really love seeing his face on the back page for all the wrong reasons. For what it's worth, Jason did his best to shoot down yesterday's report of a possible trade to the Angels, however you can't help thinking that the move could be the best thing for everyone involved...

The Juice On Giambi's Contract

Last night Jason Giambi, wearing his new, custom-made orthotics, belted his 6th home-run in the Yankees 6-2 win over Boston. As he rounded the bases he looked healthy and it seemed more likely that he could help the Yankees get back into the AL East race. However, it depends on what you believe about his contract:

Bernie: I'll Be Back

Despite seemingly settling into life without baseball, Bernie Williams is still not ready to call it a career. "I'm trying to stay in shape, working hard and we'll see what happens in the future," Williams told WNBC yesterday. "I don't think you've seen the last of me yet."

Johnny Damon sparks Yankees

A day after Joel Sherman on WEEI radio was all over Johnny Damon, he writes a story about how he is back "He did concede, however, that pain from an injured right calf is robbing life from his ways and mien, though he reported his legs felt much improved yesterday" One win and everything is corrected, I think not.

Motown Showdown

This is a good team we are going to be facing. Detroit has a good pitching staff, they have a good offense and they are scoring some runs. Sheffield has been really hot so I'm really going to have to watch out for him. He got smoked by Cabrera, a pitcher from Baltimore, and I think that woke him up. Ever since that happened he has been absolutely tearing it up. He's a guy you always...

Voiding Giambi's Contract Would Be A Mistake

As it was already mentioned here on The Fanhouse, the Yankees are looking into the statements made by Jason Giambi surrounding his steroid abuse, and might even void his contract if they find sufficient evidence he used steroids.

Rookie Relief

As hard as it has been not to sound like a broken record on the subject of the Yankees starting rotation, along comes the latest New York rookie from the depths of their not-so depleted farm system. For the eleventh time this season, Joe Torre has penciled in a new starter into the Yankees scorecard. For the seventh time it was a rookie, and for the fifth it was a rookie making his...

YES network announcers putting more presssure on Torre

According to the article Steinbrenner uses this tatic often "YES broadcasters apparently have been given the green light to be more critical of Torre's in-game decisions, a tactic The Boss has used in the past when he was displeased with the manager"

The Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Sox

Big Papi says the Sox are not worried about the Yankees, but the Yankees need to be worried about the Sox. Can't say I disagree with him. Great one-liner from the Post's Mike Puma as well: "Ortiz was the only player in the home clubhouse yesterday to address the Yankees series directly. Others were more muted. In the same vein as Jason Varitek's famous line...

Bruised, Battered Bombers Avert Sweep

For the Yankees, it was an absolutely critical win. Another loss would have swept the Bombers out of Shea, 11.5 games behind the Red Sox and just a half game ahead of the last-place Devil Rays. As it stands, the team still has their work cut out for them. Via The Bergen Record's Bob Klapisch: "To say the Bombers are on the brink is putting it mildly: they're 10? games...

A Night at Yankee Stadium

A night at Yankee Stadium for a Red Sox game is much closer to being in attendence of a riot than actually that of a baseball game. Here's a recap of my first Yanks Sox game evening.

Subway Series Brings Out the Best in People

Thank you to ESPN for keeping such high quality footage of this very drunk, clearly angry New Yorker dead center of the screen.

Sleeping Giant

Somewhere in the hearts of all the Yankee players lies the confidence and determination that has been dormant for the past seven years. This is the lowest point for any Yankee team in the Joe Torre Era, the lowest point for any Yankee team since the mid 80s. I guess Yankee fans are spoiled, having seen their team in the playoffs each of the past 11 seasons. This past weekend series...
