Why would the Padres trade their Rookie of the Year candidate from last season? Because they're a franchise that still doesn't know what direction to go.

  • Barfield is nothing special....it's called selling high. It's what Billy Beane should have done with Bobby Crosby after he won ROY.
  • Barfield was a career .300 hitter in the minor leagues (in 2,400 AB's) and is projecting nicely along that trend by hitting .280 in his first full season in the Bigs. He has better than average pop and speed for a second baseman; a traditionally weak offensive position. Moving to the Jake from Petco should improve his offensive production, although it may take him a few weeks to get used to the AL. He's only 23, has a nice glove, and now finds himself surrounded by a better lineup compared to SD. Overall, a nice move by the Indians.
