Poor Jason Jennings. He simply can't catch a break. He's managed to pitch pretty effectively in his first four years at Coors Field with the Rockies. His stats weren't always pretty but he won games and fared a hell of a lot better than guys like Mike Hampton or Denny Neagle. Jennings is finally leaving the pitcher's hellhole of Coors Field…and heading towards Houston's bandbox. The Astros acquired Jennings in exchange for center fielder Willy Taveras. Somewhere, Jennings is throwing thing because his stats are still going to be mediocre pitching in Houston.

Meet the Red Sox 2007 Closer

Devern Hansack? Huh? Peter Gammons stated on the Dan Patrick Radio Show that if the Red Sox were to enter spring training today, that Devern Hansack a 28 year old Nicaraguan would be the teams closer. You remember Devern, he started two games in september when the Red Sox were long out of it, and no hit the Orioles through 5 in the last game of the season, no you weren't watching...

Sox offer to Matsuzaka: $48 million over 6 years

ESPN is reporting that the Red Sox have made a $8 million a year offer to Daisuke Matsuzaka. There is a big gap between this number and the numbers agent Scott Boras has asked for. Theo Epstein has basically said Matsuzaka can take the offer or go back to Japan. If this is the final offer, cheers to the Red Sox for stepping up to Boras. But I have a feeling this won't be the...

Mega-Agent Boras Keeps Posturing for Dice-K

Last night, Scott Boras, agent for Daisuke Matsuzaka, held a press conference to let the world know that he thinks his player is an elite pitcher worth $100M. With negotiations going nowhere, Boras felt he needed to sway public perception his way. The Sox believe D-Mat is also worth 100M, but feel the posting fee of 51M has to be factored into that. It's a classic case of...

Video of Matsuzaka Gyroball

Check out how he holds the ball between his middle and ring finger.

Projecting Matsuzaka's 2007 Stats

A good article from Dayn Perry at Foxsports, who rounds up some 2007 projections from the guys at Baseball Prospectus, Hardball Timess and the blog Matsuzaka Watch. This deal is looking better and better by the day.

Goodbye Tradition

Daisuke Matsuzaka agreed to a 6 year $52 million (plus incentives) contract with the Boston Red Sox on wednesday making him the first $100M asian Major League Baseball player. Now many say the deal is in principle a "win-win" situation for the Red Sox. The signing not only boosts their rotation with quality young potential, it signifies the overseas reach of the organization...

The Art of Negotiation: How Epstein Played and Won the Game

Tony DeMarco of MSNBC wrote a really good piece about the negotiations and why he believes Theo did a great job in bringing Matsuzaka to the Sox. Looking at all the factors, including the current free agent market, the mood in Japan, and the limitations of the bidding situation, Theo played this game perfectly. Definitely a good explanation of why this was a good deal...certainly a fun read.

Type-O-Matsuzaka

Almost belongs in the Backyard its so poorly written. Focuses on Matsuzaka's Type-O Blood type as a hackneyed metaphor. Dice "Type O" Matsuzaka v. Kei "Iron Nerves" Igawa So bizarre.

Matsuzaka Deal Done?

It appears the Red Sox have finally signed Daisuke Matsuzaka.

Matsuzaka a Done Deal

Finally the Red Sox signed Matsuzaka and we can get into more important discussions like is he the Japanese Pedro or the next Irabu.

Pirates @ Braves Gm3

Box Score|Recap Win Probability Added Final Score: Pirates 4 Braves 3 (10 innings) Well of course the big news last night was the fact Mike Hampton hurt himself warming up just minutes before he was to take the mound. It’s a strained left pectoral muscle, and injury that has landed him on the...

Hey Mike Hampton's Agent, Need Another Client?

While you might not find TSP anywhere near the top 100,000 on Alexa, we think the chances of us commanding those types of advertising rates with Mike Hampton's agent might be a possibility. Apparently his agent, Mark Rodgers, has a deal in place with the Houston Astros pending a physical. We understand that Hampton had a great three years with the Astros, but that was 10 years ago...

Colorado Rockies 3, Arizona Diamondbacks 2

The Rockies kept up with their hot playing last night as they defeated the D-Backs in 11 innings.  What really must hurt the D-Backs is the fact that the Rockies beat Jose Valverde who has been lights out this whole season.  Willy Taveras was 1 for 4 with 1 run scored, 1 RBI, a double [...]

Matsui who?Josh Beckett will have a dominant year, and he'll be their number 3 starter. Ridiculous. Now all eyes can turn to Barry Zito. Yawn. More Scott Boras in the news. At least he'll be talking to more than one team."I'd like to meet Curt Schilling," said Dice-K. Umm, pretty sure you'll get the chance dude. He's learning Japanese for you buddy. What...

Casting Major League 4 With MLB Players

We're in the middle of spring training and the WBC is just not filling the void for me. So while we wait, let's cast MLB players in roles for the hypothetical movie, Major League 4. Yeah I know, the regular season can't come soon enough.
