Torrela
Un-be-lievable. No official confirmation on this, but no reason to doubt it. Peter Abraham of the Journal News is reporting that the the Los Angeles Dodgers are set to fire/ buy-out incumbent manager Grady Little and replace the former Sox skipper with former Yanks skipper Joe Torre.

  • Great move for the Dodgers. If Torre is really taking Matingly with him, it gives me a lot more confidence in Donny Baseball's coaching skills. Before I thought he was just getting the opportunity because big George forced him into the accelerated profile without really paying any dues. Torre's only got a few years left, so Mattingly should set himself up nicely for the future.
  • Torre was just on David Letterman monday night and said there is no truth to the rumor. He is even thinking of sitting out for one season.
  • that's not what torre said at all. official word is that negotiations are on-going.
  • I can understand bringing in Torre, he is a terrific manager. But why Donny Baseball? Haven't the Dodgers ever heard of the Mattingly curse?
  • If they have heard of it, they ignored it long before this move. They drafted Mattingly's son last year. In other news, Keith Hernandez sucks.
  • that's some fine banter Jeff.
  • They did draft Mattingly's son and he is considered a first round bust at 19. Last year in low A- .210 BA, 3 HR, 40 RBI's in 404 AB's with a whopping 139 k's. He was drafted as a SS too, but his defense is so bad that he's moved postions twice in two years. Keith Hernandez's ten year old son hit .430 in little league last year.
  • I guess I'm gonna have to buy some new gear!
  • Dammit! Not the Rangers? @#!%^$#!!!
  • Well, as a Yankee fan, I wish Torre & Mattingly good luck. By the way the Yankees didn't win a series the entire time Mattingly was a coach I think that Mattingly is a little bit sour grapes. He could have stayed with the Yankees and been a coach under Girardi. He really is thin skinned even though he actually did it to himself with his comments orior to Joe not accepting an excellent contract.

Peter Gammons isn't an A-Rod fan.

Peter Gammons is asked about the A-Rod situation while the Red Sox are celebrating a World Series Championship behind him.

Report: A-Rod leaving Yankees

Whoever the new manager of the New York Yankees is, it looks like he will be running a team minus Alex Rodriguez. SI.com's Jon Heyman is reporting that A-Rod's agent, Scott Boras, has notified the Yankees he will opt out of his current contract. If the Yankees stick to their word, that being that they wouldn't bid for Rodriguez on the free agent market, he's gone.

Breaking News: Fox Reports A-Rod Will Opt Out

In the Top of the 8th inning of Game Four of the World Series, Ken Rosenthal of Fox reported that Scott Boras says Alex Rodriguez, The 2007 MLB Clutch Performer of the Year Presented by Pepsi, will opt out of his contract with the New York Yankees, citing concern over the team's ability to contend.

ARod and Kobe: Sports' Biggest Punks

Sure, there's smog, traffic, crime, and a brutally high cost of living, but please forgive me if I don't quite understand why ARod and Kobe are working so desperately hard to get out of our country's two biggest media markets, off two of the world's most famous teams, and away from situations they, and they alone, created. Oh, wait, I do understand, they're weak...

Sky hasn't fallen on the Yankees

Yes, it's been an eventful few days for the New York Yankees. Yes, on its face it seems much of the news hasn't been good. Yes, things will be different around the Bronx next summer. Yes, the Red Sox just won another World Series. But, no, the sky hasn't fallen on this team. Even without A-Rod (and you can throw Mariano Rivera and Jorge Posada in here, too, if you want...

A-Rod offers one-year deals, performance incentives to service-industry workers

BRONX, NY ? Alex Rodriguez, citing what he states is a "brilliant, performance-based standard," is beginning to offer everyone he knows one-year, incentive-heavy deals to continue in their current roles. "I found out about this new strategy recently," A-Rod said. (SATIRE)

Hey, Boras, Stop Your Bluffing

The Alex Rodriguez opt-out happened sooner than most people thought it would and shocked just about everyone. Should it have? No:

Girardi's Coaching Staff

Mid '80s Yankee short-stop Bobby Meacham might end up being Joe Girardi's third base coach. Kind of humorous if you know anything about a baserunning blunder Meacham made while rounding third base one day:

Yankee fans don't have to boo Donny Baseball

Now that the Yankees have named Joe Girardi manager, if this surprises you you must have been in a cave with Bin Laden, Yankee fans are spared having to boo one of their favorite players, Don Mattingly. The first question to be asked is; will Girardi piss of Steinbrenner before or after the All-Star game?

A-ROD an Angel? Maybe, Maybe Not.

The thoughts of A-ROD becoming an Angel sounds quite interesting, but I'll believe it when I see the report saying that A-ROD officially signed with the Angels for who knows how many years and who knows how much money. I'll just live my life till it actually happens or doesn't happen. I'd be pretty happy if he does sign with the Angels cause it'll really help the offense big time...

IS IT PANIC TIME FOR YANKEES FANS?

There is really only one story on the New York sports scene for the next two weeks, the ongoing saga of the New York Yankees.

Indians Should Offer an A-Rod Mortgage Contract

I know the Indians will never make this offer, but if they did, this is how it would work. Pay A-Rod $150 million for five years of play at third base in Cleveland, but pay it off to A-Rod like a 6.5% interest mortgage. Read on for the details.

Joe Girardi: Congrats But No Congrats

I'm torn. I'm acting like a selfish little brat right now. I should be happy for Joe Girardi on grabbing the New York Yankees managerial position, but I'm not. Call me a bitter Marlins fan, but what should have been a follow up season to build on turned out to be a major step backwards. I can't help but wonder if it's partially the managers fault. It's not Joe Girardi's fault, he...

ALEX RODRIGUEZ SAYS F*CK YOU, YANKS. BYE, BYE?

After the Boston Red Sox completed their little league dismantlement of the National League's entrant into the World Series tournament, Alex Rodriguez apparently wasted no time to throw wind on the New York Yankees off-season wildfire by announcing his intent to become a free agent. Rodriguez contractually had ten days after the end of the World Series to opt out of his contract...
