Casey Kotchman went 3-5, including a two-run double in the eighth, and Jurrjens pitched seven innings with eight strikeouts. The 8-1 win brings the Braves back to .500 for the year and in contention still in the division that no [...]
Rays Get Back To .500
After an up and down, inconsistent start to the season, the Tampa Bay rays are starting to get back to their winning ways from last seasons World Series run. They won their 4th straight game today vs the Oakland Athletics to pull their record to 20-20 at the 25% completion mark of the season.

OtB Twins Notes (05.18.09)
Even with the loss, the Joe Mauer-Brett Gardner play was sick. Swine flu sick. (Editor's note: it would feel much better if it happened in a Twins' win.) According to the Star-Ledger's Colin Stephenson the Yankees center fielder Gardner, who Mauer tagged with a diving save attempting to score in the bottom of the ninth, believed Mauer was throwing...
Atlanta Braves Lose To Colorado Rockies: One Run In 18 Innings Are Your Braves
The Atlanta Braves continue to be the most inconsistent team in baseball, losing to the Colorado Rockies at home again, 5-1. Derek Lowe pitched well once again, but the Braves couldn’t get the offense going.
Jason Marquis just pitched a better game in front of a pitifully low turnout at Turner Field for the 18-19 Braves.

D-backs use 5-run seventh inning to down Marlins
The Arizona Diamondbacks got back to work today in Miami playing the Florida Marlins in front of a crowd that rivaled my 6-year old’s last t-ball game. The D-backs used a 5-run seventh inning and a strong outing by starter Jon Garland to down the Marlins 5-3.
Garland pitched seven strong innings allowing two runs to [...]
Todd Helton Gets His 2000th Hit ... Um ... Maybe?
Todd Helton ripped a line drive past Yunel Escobar to get his 2,000th hit. Maybe. We're not sure yet. That's because the official scorer in Atlanta ruled it an error on Escobar. Rockies manager Clint Hurdle plans on discussing the matter with the scorer and seeing if he can get it changed. That will mean Helton will get his 2,000th hit nearly an entire day after he swung the...
Need Some Help
What else can you say when a pitcher gets a no decision? In the case of New York Mets right- handed-pitcher Victor Zambrano it is not as bad, simply because Zambrano would have been given the loss.In 7 2/3 innings that he pitched last night, Zambrano was able to hold the Oakland Athletics to 2 runs. ...
A's overpower Rays in 11
Matt Holliday, right, receives congratulations from Jack Cust and Kurt Suzuki after his three-run homer.
Dodgers Get a Nice Victory
Monday night at Coors Field was awesome for the Los Angeles Dodgers â€" they got their eighth win in 10 games. Pitcher Brett Tomko had a dominating start and Nomar Garciaparra drove in the key run that defeated the Colorado Rockies 5-4. It was a nice victory and there will be more of these to come.

Bullpen Coach Visibly Excited By DH-less Game
It’s good having friends you can count on to send you pictures of interesting things going on in crotches at historic Tropicana Field.
For me that friend is Jeff from SideSalad.net, who’s shared with us great pics of fights, Joe Maddon working with meat, and the classic mascot camel toe.
His latest opus is a pic taken at Sunday’s game at The Trop against Cleveland...
Pineiro's Gem
Instead of moping, I decided to admire Joel Pineiro's shut-out of the Cubs. To do so, I compared his sinker from Tuesday night to the sinkers thrown by Derek Lowe and Brandon Webb (both during August 2008 in St. Louis).Enjoy the pictures. Click for larger versions.First up is spin movement, in inches. It's the catcher's view, and it shows how much the pitch deviated...
