I thought I would have a positive headline for this post, because there wasn't much else to jump through hoops about north of the border last night.Tim Wakefield had "the bad inning" last night and it was the fifth, allowing five runs, and that's all the Toronto Blue Jays needed to end their nine-game losing streak, 6-3. Even before the bad fifth, it wasn't going to be Wake's night. Ungood
Another rotten day north of the border.A promising beginning went up in smoke, as the Sox jumped out to a 3-1 lead, courtesy of Mike Lowell's RBI single and a two-run blast by Rocco Baldelli (who later left the game with a knee contusion, as he slammed into the all along right field going after a foul ball, pictured above.) They had Brian Tallet on the ropes those first two innings...
The David Ortiz SolutionIf I were the Red Sox - I'd solve to problem with David Ortiz in a very simple manner. I'd start have him practice his bunting.Like the sage Wee Willie Keeler is famous for saying, "Hit them where they ain't." Whenever a team went into a shift on Ortiz - I'd have him drag a bunt down the 3rd base line. If the other team wants to give...
This Day in D.C. Baseball History - May 30, 1927
(by Mark Hornbaker) On this day back in 1927, Walter "The Big Train" Johnson gave up only three hits as he led the Washington Senators (18-18) to a 3-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox (10-26). The shutout will be the Big Train's "Major League Record" 110th career shutout and the last one of his illustrious career.

Bend it like Beckett
Once again, Josh Beckett was a creature of nasty majesty during yesterday's day game with the Twins. He's now put together back-to-back starts of the take-no-prisoners quality we've needed at the top of our rotation, but that he hasn't quite...

Toronto who?It appears that after the Boston Red Sox swept the then AL East first place Toronto Blue Jays a week ago, they have imploded. The Blue Jays are 0-9 in their last nine games and were swept by the Sox, Atlanta Braves, and the last place Baltimore Orioles. Is the Canadian reign over? After being hyped up without facing the also dying Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto is not appearing...
