Barry Bonds, facing eventual Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy, flied out to center fielder Brady Clark for the third out in the 6th inning of an 11-3 loss to the San Diego Padres. Seems pretty innocuous, considering the never ending list of accomplishments and accolades Bonds had compiled in his career. But it was significant. The date was September 26, 2007, and it was the last at-bat of Barry Bonds' baseball career. Or was it?

  • i hope this never happens... bonds should be done forever now he does not deserve to come back
  • He should not come back to play because it might ruin his legacy. However, I know that he wants to win a ring real bad and get 3,000 hits. Either way he deserves to be in the hall of fame.
  • The dude wants to play and he deserves to play. The blackball by MLB teams on him has been pretty childish considering every team, management and owners knew that steroids were pervasive in every organization, and did not start and stop with Bonds.
  • Someone will need digging out of a hole and they'll take a shot at him.
  • The reason nobody wants him to play for their team is because he is a cancer in the clubhouse. There is no denying that he is a great ball player, but his attitude sucks, and no one wants him bringing down the moral o0f the team. And being that baseball is a team sport, I imagine that is a huge negative in his favor to be picked up by any team, no matter how good he is.

One of the best pitchers in baseball is literally about to get paid -- handsomely. The AP is reporting that Padres' ace, Jake Peavy will be guaranteed $52 million from a three-year extension that will run from 2010-12. Should the team exercise a $22 million option for 2013, the deal will be worth $70 million. The deal will probably be finalized sometime after the Winter Meetings...

After speculation in print that the Red Sox had expressed interest in Barry Bonds,GM Theo Epstein wasted no time shooting down that rumor. He said there was nothing to the speculation. Am I Richard Justice?

This is getting uncomfortably weird. Last Thursday on SportingNews.com it was "Devil Rays could be even better in the second half." This Thursday, it's "Bring back Barry Bonds … please!" Theo Epstein squashes Barry Bonds rumors

Ecko Gives Bonds' 756 HR Ball to HOF After Confusion

UPDATE: It's been a confusing day for the 756th home run baseball that was hit by Barry Bonds. It seemed earlier in the day that shoe designer Marc Ecko had decided to renege on donating Barry Bonds’ record setting 756th homerun ball to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.... or did he? Ecko, who purchased the ball for $750,000 said at the time that the ball would go to Cooperstown...

One Grieving Indians Fan Puts His Allegiances Up For Sale

It's a sad thing when a team trades away its best player during the middle of a season, effectively giving up on the season at hand. So what is a fan to do when their team waves the white flag?
