It seemed that one report about Harden's decreased velocity in his last start (July 6th) was picked up and reported by everyone who, you know, reports. My first instinct was to actually check it out as I did and found that the velocity in his last start was actually slightly higher than his season average. But since he's now a Cub and we're sure to watch these kinds of things...

I drink the Billy Beane Kool Aid by the gallon so after seeing yesterday's Cubs-A's trade, I fully expect:
a) Rich Harden to possibly not be available for the postseason this year, and almost certainly not make it to the end of next season without spending significant time on the DL. The current stretch he's in [...]

Tonight was one of Zambrano's better starts in some time. He held a Reds team that loves to hit against Zambrano to just one hit in 8 innings of work (a home run by Dunn, his 7th off Zambrano in their careers). He struck out 5 and walked none. First let's start with CC.
Five was his big number tonight - 5 hits, 5 walks, 5 Ks and, according STO, 5 standing O's from the Milwaukee faithful. Despite the ten base runners over 6 innings, the big man gave up only two runs and as I write this it appears he will get his first NL win tonight.
Let me just wish the Brewers fans good luck with CC. I've always like...

Using the ZIPs in-season projection tool, I calculated the projections for the 5 Cubs starters for the rest of the year. Rich Harden's stats are projected as a Cub. Since Jason Marquis remains in the rotation for the time being, I only calculated his projection and not Sean Marshall's.
Some pretty good numbers below. Take a look at Harden's numbers. Ridiculous...

As discussed last week, the Phillies thought they had a shot at CC Sabathia and now that that isn't happening, they are looking elsewhere. With the Cubs grabbing Rich Harden almost on top of the Sabathia deal, that leaves the Phillies considering Mariners LH Erik Bedard and Toronto RH AJ Burnett.
