Josh Beckett continued his dominance of the Atlanta Braves last night, pitching seven shutout innings in leading the Red Sox to a 4-1 win in Atlanta last night. For 2009, he has pitched 16 innings against the Braves and allowed no earned runs.I didn't see any of the game last night, which is an extreme rarity for me. I was with a dear friend for dinner and a movie last night. But as I was in the theater I was thinking that Beckett rolled them over last Saturday in a dominant pitching performance, and I wouldn't be surprised if he was doing it again.Lo and behold, I was correct.Beckett is now 6-0 in his last seven starts against the Braves, which goes back to 2005. (He was 2-5 against them from 2001-04.) Beckett was never in trouble last night, as Atlanta only got a man to third once against him.He left the game after seven innings, for what was later said to be some "stomach turmoil." If anyone had some "stomach turmoil" I would have guess it would have been Beckett giving that to t...

Josh Beckett Doesn't Give a Damn What His Stomach Says, He Came to Party

First of all, to respond to the previous post, I can assume, Denton, that you only watched the first inning? Because the Smoltz I saw from innings two through five had a remarkably low suck factor.Of course, he's no Commander Kick Ass. In fact, earlier this season, Commander Kick Ass himself was no Commander Kick Ass. But Beckett is clearly back in the groove. And even as his...

Boston Red Sox News & Notes – 6/27

After throwing a complete game shutout his last time out against the Atlanta Braves, Josh Beckett did close to the same thing last night. It’s a bravo performance

As a rule - and a prudent one, at that - manager Terry Francona avoids Josh Beckett when he pitches. That goes for before and during games. Why face that intensity, that competitiveness more than absolutely necessary? That was why Francona was set to send Beckett out for the eighth in a consecutive scoreless stretch that had reached ...

WAS 9, BOS 3: Debut

It's not quite the debut John Smoltz may have wanted but it's a starting point. Smoltz pitched five innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits, one walk and five strikeouts. David Ortiz drove home his 34th RBI on a sacrifice fly to left field and Rocco Baldelli hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning. Boston had eight hits in the loss. Jordan...
