Bonds is not your dad's Hank Aaron!

Regardless of your personal thoughts on Barry Bonds, the fact remains he will bypass Hank Aaron's HR record in a few games!

Regardless of his innocence or his guilt, you can't erase his past successes with innuendo. Maybe if he is convicted, yes, but till then the record remains his!

Regardless of Selig's attendance or Aaron's attendance, you can however, expect a boastful self-appreciation from him. We've all heard his arrogance at some time or another!

This is all part of the Bonds mystique, notice I didn't say charm or charisma!! I really do not care if Selig is there or Aaron is there when it does happen. Barry Bonds will never be the man Hank Aaron became. I venture to say that Hank Aaron finds more, fulfilling satisfaction with his life now, than when he achieved his 755th HR. He was even quoted at the time as saying he was "glad it was over" or something to that effect. Certainly, Hank Aaron recognized his own accomplishments and achievements, but he went on to prove there is more to life than a Home Run record. He became a successful businessman and philanthropist. We should applaud him for that. Regardless of Barry Bonds breaking his record, Hank Aaron has my respect. In later years, we may look back and be able to proclaim that Barry Bonds made something in his life besides a Home Run record. So till then, let the substance of Hank Aaron be a lesson for Bonds.

What a great article. It's so good to see the MLB fans realize this. Bonds is another great example of a great player with a bad attitude. It seems to be an epidemic these days. Hank Aaron will always be remembered, even with those who do not watch the game because of the exact reasons you state. Hopefully Bonds will come around as the years progress and really turn this whole thing around. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I will not be pulling for Bonds when he breaks the record. I did not know all these things about Hank Aaron. It's nice to know such a great baseball player was also such a great guy.

steroid or no steroid, hitting home runs is hard work, i sure couldn't hit one, let alone 755

I agree with all of this. Bonds' breaking of the record should be celebrated, but his and the actions of a lot of professional athletes should not be.

I would really like to see him tear an ACL or two this weekend and never make it back to overtake Aaron. He ruined what was supposed to be a remarkable moment for baseball fans as far as enjoying seeing the homerun record supassed. Our only hope for a while now is A-Rod. I will always remember Bonds for being a failure in the post season in Pittsburgh and San Francisco, and for the steroid controversy that will follow him like a dark cloud until he's been driven in a pink Cadillac around the outfield at an All Star Game in the future.

I say break it Barry. I wasn't around to see Hank's accomplishment......I want to see a record broken. The fans can't do anything about it, so we might as well take it as it is: steroid homers. You don't have to agree with what he is suspected of doing nor applaud his accomplishment. He is the king until proven guilty... Most hate him or love him; I'm neither. Hopefully Barry will come around and do something great off the field like Aaron is doing now. Wouldn't that be crazy if Bonds broke the record while playing during the series with the Braves (July 23-27) - or, I doubt, but break it in the middle of August while playing at the Ted?

Great take. Aaron was has been a great ambassador of baseball over the course of the years. Let's hope Barry can step up his off-the-field game and do the same.

I think everyone will look back at Bonds and Aaron and almost conclusively say that Hank Aaron was the better class act, on and off the field. And if Bonds has been using steroids, that will definitely take away from his achievements.

steroid homers! AHAH...sigh... Jpsmitty good one man! And thats what it is....steroid homers!! Barry Bonds uses steroids and there is no doubt about it. To all of you trying to convince yourselfs otherwise...shame... Congrats to Barry if he beats the record....but he is going to feel some guilt....every night before he goes to bed, Barry is going to remind himself...."I cheated with steroid homers!...NOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooo!"

Very nice! I'm not a Bonds fan, nor will I ever be. It's unfortunate to see a record broken by someone who doesn't possess half the character of Aaron.
