Jack Zduriencik feels Bill Hall brings Mariners "versatility" and will rebound from current slump
Just got off the phone with GM Jack Zduriencik, who told me the reason he went after Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Bill Hall because of his versatility, the power he brings and -- of course -- the price.
The Brewers are picking up most of the remaining $10.3 million on Hall's four-year deal, which runs through next season. Zduriencik wouldn't tell me how much money the Mariners...
Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu on Bill Hall: not sure where he fits yet
Just got up from a happier post-game clubhouse than we saw last night, after this one ended with a David Aardsma strikeout (photo above) of Alex Avila. Small wonder, since the Mariners now have 62 wins -- one more than all of last season.
While that part is nice from a symbolic perspective, it's not all that much to crow about considering how low the bar had been set by the...
Bill Hall in Mariners lineup -- in left field
Leave it to the Mariners to throw folks for a loop. They said they wanted to see newly-acquired Bill Hall play. So, instead of putting him at his best position, third base, they are starting him in left field. Hall has played the outfield well before, even starting in center for a time while with the Brewers.

Bill Hall Acquisition Might Finalize Adrian Beltre's Departure
The Seattle Mariners have just acquired Bill Hall, a Brewers third baseman who was designated for assignment last week. The Mariners will be sending Ruben Flores, a minor-league pitcher to the Milwaukee Brewers. With Beltre injured, Bill Hall adds needed depth at third base position. This is a nice buy-low move for the Mariners as the Brewers will be picking up the rest of Hall&...

DETROIT (AP) -- Newly acquired third baseman Bill Hall joined the Seattle Mariners for Thursday's game against the Detroit Tigers and left-handed pitcher Garrett Olson was sent to Triple-A.
Seattle Mariners at Detroit Tigers: 08/19 game thread
Don't forget to read our interview with Jack Zduriencik in the prior post about his trade today for Milwaukee Brewers third baseman/outfielder Bill Hall. A report in SI.com says the Brewers will pick up $7.15 million of the $8.5 million in 2009 salary owed to Hall. That jives with what I've been told: that the M's barely had to pay anything in this deal.
As for tonight...
Mariners Acquire Bill Hall
According to the Seattle Times' Geoff Baker, the Mariners have acquired Bill Hall from the Brewers. There's an announcement expected before game time.
Deals turned sour an inevitable reality
For all the things the Milwaukee Brewers have coming to them for an unraveling season, a retrospective fungo to the kneecaps for the Bill Hall mess wouldn't make the cut.

Baseball Business Journal: Scott Boras And The Strasburg Effect
As a supporter of the Milwaukee Brewers I was impatiently waiting to see how the negotiations between Stephen Strasburg and the Washington Nationals would unfold.
Rumors were circulating that Scott Boras, Strasbug's agent, was asking for a $30 million deal that would eclipse any previous contract for a player chosen in the Major League Baseball rookie draft. In the end...
