Found April 16, 2008 on MVN:
Dave Bush desperately needed a good start against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night in order to state his case to remain in the rotation once Yovani Gallardo comes off the disabled list this weekend. Bush got his first quality start of the season against the Cards, but it wasn't enough and the Cardinals downed the Brewers, 6-1. Bush fell to 0-3 on the season but pitched relatively well. He allowed only three runs in his six innings pitched. He gave up six hits, walked only two and struck out five on the night. The pressure now shifts to Carlos Villanueva on Wednesday night to make his case to remain a starter.

NFL Says No To Alcohol

In a similar move to what many MLB teams have done in the wake of St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock death, the NFL went a step further by baning alcohol for all team functions. As with the steroid issue, the NFL comes out stronger and with more intent than the MLB. Where Bud Selig sees this as a team by team matter, first year NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has made this...

Top Five Stories For 2009-St. Louis Cardinals

A look at the top five stories for the surprise 2006 World Series winners, the St. Louis Cardinals.

Boston Red Sox News & Notes - 3/13

The Boston Red Sox headed across the state yesterday to Jupiter and ended up losing 4-2 to the St. Louis Cardinals when Joe Mather hit a 2-run walk-off homer off of Marcus McBeth. Josh Beckett got the start for the Red Sox and looked really good. He allowed just 2 hits, both to former teammate Joe [...]

Revisiting the 2003 Tigers

I didn't get a chance to write about the Mike Maroth trade because I had one of those busy summer weekends (family cookout, birthday party, bonfire) that kept me away from the computer. I won't write a lot about Maroth because it's already been covered by all the other Detroit blogs but I would like to add a couple of things. Even though Maroth was easily our worst starter...

Drew's cycle helps D-Backs rally over Cardinals

The Skinny: Stephen Drew went 5 for 5, including hitting for the cycle as the D-Backs rallied from a 5-1 deficit to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals 8-6 in a wild game that featured 8 home runs at Chase Field. Drew became the first Diamondback ever to hit for the cycle at Chase Field/Bank [...]

D-Bag(s) Of The Week: The Astros Pitching Staff

This week's winner of the Douchebag of the Week Award was really tough to pick. We thought about Andy Roddick because of his lame "it was the Big Mac's fault excuse" but we gave him a pass. Ruslan Chagaev also got some consideration for backing out of his October heavyweight title unification bout with Sultan Ibragimov, allowing Evander Holyfield to take his place...

Mets Add To Their Bullpen Arsenal

The Mets have added yet another arm, according to the New York Post, to compete for the final spot in the bullpen in Ron Villone. The 39 year old, Villone, must take a physical in order for his minor league deal to become official. The move is somewhat questionable, due to Villone?s apparent link to performance enhancing drugs. This move will probably prompt a negative media reaction...

A rant on the BCS bowl system

A friend of mine (my former officemate) sent me a link to this article yesterday: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/stewart_mandel/01/22/cardinals-bcs/index.html ... and ?defied? anyone to challenge the logic in it. This is my reply, which grew long enough that I decided to post it at here given the wait for meaningful news, the recent discussions of playoff parity...

Are We Down To 102 Names On The List?

Quite possibly! We've all been wondering who are the remaining 103 names on the steroid list that A-Rod was found on. Names are being thrown around left and right, including St. Louis Cardinals first baseman, Albert Pujols and former Mets catcher, Mike Piazza. Here's a name that I never really thought about, but is being mentioned: Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez. There's an article done...

Hudson Chooses Rehab Over Surgery... For Now...

UPDATE FROM THE BALLPARK: According to the Braves Media Relations Guru, Brad Hainje, after the end of the game tonight with the St. Louis Cardinals, both doctors that were consulted ((Andrews and Lewis Yocum in LA)) agree that surgery was "likely..."

La Russa Summons Bed Time Story, Blankey from AAA Memphis

As the winningest manager in Cardinals' history, Tony La Russa sure seems to have an image problem.  For a man who once admitted that he takes everything personal because anything less means you aren't giving it your all, he still comes off as an enigma.  He's the proponent of old-school baseball, played the right way with "purity", even though he sees nothing wrong with managing...

Transaction: Mets recall Knight

The New York Mets have recalled Brandon Knight. It's Knight's second stint with the Mets. He started one game back on July 26 against the St. Louis Cardinals at Shea Stadium, allowing four runs in five innings.

This afternoon in Florida, the Baltimore Orioles take on the St. Louis Cardinals in Fort Lauderdale. The lineups are posted on Roch's blog, and today we'll see much of the projected regular season lineup -- Roberts, Huff, Markakis, Mora, Izturis -- along with guys who will be given a look such ...

Fantasy Baseball Effects of the Khalil Greene / Cardinals Trade

Earlier in the week, the San Diego Padres continued purging their roster by sending shortstop Khalil Greene to the St. Louis Cardinals for reliever Mark Worrell and a player to be named later. Let's look at how this trade affects the fantasy value of Greene. For the most part, any time an ...

The Birds of Baltimore Whip the Cards; Quick Hits...

A day after a lackluster Grapefruit League debut, the Baltimore Orioles bats woke up and beat the St. Louis Cardinals down in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 11-3. The star of the game was Scott Moore who was a perfect two-for-two at plate and also hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning to pad ...
