Redleg Nation:
Rob Neyer’s ESPN Sweetspot has some interesting comments in it today. One that really got my attention (found in the Wednesday Wangdoogles section) was referring to a joint story written by Joe Posnanski and Bill James for Sports Illustrated. Neyer refers to more batters being hit by pitches today than before; Posnanski and James discuss other things such as going the other way with the pitch, too. Excellent read.
Also, from yesterday’s “pay” portion of Baseball Prospectus.com there’s a brief note on Justin Turner, whom the Reds traded along with Ryan Freel for catcher Ramon Hernandez. It seems that Turner, a second baseman, may soon be ready for the majors . There’s another middle infielder that could probably be helping us right now.

“I Don’t Know”
John Fay, who’s doing yeoman’s work lately (especially for a guy with no competition), asked Walt Jocketty to explain the Reds plan.
Jocketty’s answer was beyond poor. The guy sounds like he’s never even considered the question:
“The plan is . . . we have a plan, let’s put it at that. . . The plan is to try and develop quality young players and build...

Hal McCoy Can't Stand Willy Taveras' Lack of Hustle, Salsa Music
Willy Taveras was cut loose by the Rockies after a disappointing 2008 season and immediately snapped up by the Reds to for a tidy $6.25 million contract. After Corey Patterson left Cincy, Dusty Baker obviously needed an unproductive center fielder who doesn't hustle or hit his weight to fill his place. Taveras fits the role to a T.
