Coco Crisp charged the mount today against Tampa Bay and avoided a huge right hook from pitcher James Shields. He came back with a quick jab but was quickly piled on and sucker-punched repeatedly.
did crisp actually connect? it was hard to tell in that video. but regardless crisp is a little hot head for starting all of this last night with that slide.
It wasn't started by Coco. It was started by Bartlett who blocked second base with his knee earlier in the game, which resulted in Coco getting injured. Then he took out Iwamura a couple innings later. If I was Coco I would have done the same. By the way, did anyone noticed Coco getting pummeled as his teammates did nothing? That was BS. Stand up for your teammates. That would not have happened in Oakland.
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I saw Coco's slide the night before, it was dirty. If another team would have slid into a BoSox 2nd baseman or SS like that you'd all be calling for his head. Coco deserved to be hit with a fastball.
exactly...remember when duncan from the yanks slid cleats-up into second base against the rays during spring training and it sparked all sorts of sh*t? seems the rays stick up for their own, and i respect that BIG style
Also I had no problem with Shields swinging at Coco. My problem was with Crawford, Gomes, and Iwamura all taking the sucker punches on Coco after Navarro had him down.
Navarro was probably the best guy in the entire fight. He gets props from me for doing what he was supposed to and trying to protect his pitcher by tackling Coco and keeping him down.
Sucker punched? Not quite. Shields' teammates had his back. They are protecting their pitcher. You charge the mound, you should get owned like Coco did last night.
I completely agree. Now, if Coco didn't deserve the bean, then I would have a different opinion. But Coco deserved the bean and SHOULDN'T have charged the mound.
Wait until the next series with the Rays. Idiot Coco says that there is more to come. He should be expelled for the season if he continues to fan the flames.
No. You can have it one way or the other. Shields had his teammates back so he plunked Pedroia in the first inning. If that was the end of it, then fine but he ALSO hit Coco in the next inning. If you want to go the whole "having each others back" route, then Coco charged the mound because he had Pedroia's back because Pedroia wasn't the one that deserved to get hit.
I agree Soxaddict. If he had a problem with Coco then he should have just hit Coco. It was a little more than a typical baseball brawl where no punches are thrown. Nobody got hurt fortunately. I will be going to at least two Red Sox games in late June against the Rays at Tropicana field. It should be very interesting.
He got the shit kicked out of him did he? That's an educated statement. As far as i could see it was a draw, but why i waste my thoughts on such matters scraggles me. Frankly the whole deboggle could've been avoided had coco beware, I mean coco puffs, i mean cococola simply apologized for his dirty slide the night before.
Look at the vid, Coco dodges shields punch, then goes to throw a jab and doesnt connect, he grazed his shoulder and then Navarro went to bring him down and on the way down shields lands one right in Coco's face. Just watch for #33...forgot which vid tho.
Go Mets!!
in reply to soxaddict's posture that sliding into second base and home are totally different and his
feelings about baseball "etiquette",PLAY HARD,PLAY CLEAN,PRACTICE GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP,
AND IF YOU LACE UP YOUR SPIKES IN MLB,DON'T APOLOGIZE FOR PLAYING GOOD,HARD,CLEAN
BASEBALL,THE WAY IT'S ALWAYS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN PLAYED.APPARENTLY YOU HAVE
SOME DEEP ANGST WHEN YOUR MOM FORGOT TO PICK YOU UP FROM SOCCER PRACTICE.
Your opinion stopped mattering the minute you used ALL CAPS TO TRY AND DESCRIBE YOUR SHABBY POINT.
That said, it's a clean play to slide into someone with your spikes up. That doesn't mean you should do it. You won't get tossed out of a game for it unless you're karate kicking someone. You can also slide hard into second base if it's the 3rd out of the inning, will someone do it? No, that's reserved for a double-play breakup (yeah, I'm looking at you Coco!) but it's still against baseball etiquette to do it.
in my reply to soxaddict's review of my posting a response to his critique of my opinion,i have afew counterpoints.
1.being a lifelong CHICAGO WHITE SOX FAN,i'm old school and i apoligize for if you were upset that i accidentally hit the "caps lock" key in my reply.
2.this is the first reply that i have ever sent to a website, but you touched a nerve that warranted a.
response.
3.there is only 1 MLB team that uses "sox", soxaddict, that would be the CHICAGO WHITE SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4.in chicago we don't use words like shabby or etiqutte when it comes to professional sports
5.have you ever played competive sports at any level.{T-ball excluded}
6.Carlton Fisk cho
se to use CHICAGO WHITE SOX hat/uniform at Cooperstown
7.Bobby Orr ended his career with th Chicago Blackhawks
6.boston fans should be proud for ruining bill buckners life for one miffed ground ball
1. It's ok, I heard it happens a lot on the South Side. 2. I guess I feel special then. 3. Wrong. You guys lost permission to do that when you didn't even pack the stadium the year after you won the World Series. (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/attendance?sort=home_avg&year=2006&seasonType=2) Show your team some love. 4. That is very well apparent. I've seen A.J. Pierzynski play. He's worse than Coco. 5. I pitched every year of my life until senior year of HS when I tore the ACL in my knee, so yeah. 6. He played for Chicago longer than Boston. It would have been rude not to. 7. I'm not sure what this has to do with anything BUT Bobby Orr was lied to by his agent and tricked into going to play with the Blackhawks. If you don't believe me, Google for the dickheaded disbarred Alan Eagleson.
Your other 6. I was 2 when that happened but I still feel ashamed that Sox fans did that to him. I didn't blame him one bit when he gave a pissed off "who cares" comment in 2004 when the Sox finally won the WS. People had no right to make death threats and put him through the BS that they did.
