College Baseball Regional Previews: Irvine, CA

Irvine Regional 1. UC Irvine Anteaters (43-13) vs 4. Fresno State Bulldogs (32-28) 2. Virginia Cavaliers (43-12-1) vs 3. San Diego State Aztecs (40-21) Winner to take on champion of Oxford Regional. The tournament directors did not do any favors for anyone in this regional -- the toughest in the country. UC-Irvine ended the season #1 in the polls, yet they only received the #6 overall seed. To throw salt on the wound, the Anteaters will have to square off with an experienced #4 seed that will not be intimidated. That team being none other than the defending national champs, the Fresno State Bulldogs, who made their improbable run last season as a #4 seed. However, only two #4 seeds have even advanced to the Super Regionals, so another run may be too much to ask of last season's Underdogs turned Wonderdogs. ...more...
