The below chart shows a comparison between the Salary spent by each MLB teams and the percentage of attendance in their stadium. The higher you are on the chart the closer you are to the Yankees 200 million dollar payroll, the lower you are on the chart the closer you are to the Marlins 38 million dollar payroll. The further right the team is the closer they are to the Red Sox 101% average capacity. The further left a team is the Pirates 40.8% attendance. Ideally you want your salary low and your attendance high, so the closer you are to the lower right the better and the closer you are to the upper left, i.e. high salary low attendance, the worse off you are.~The Brewers are doing very well for themselves this year post Sabathia and Sheets as they are 7th in attendance percentage but just 17th in salary. ~Only Milwaukee, Kansas City (Thanks Greinke!) and San Diego have a better than average attendance while also below the median of MLB salaries.~The Padres apparently pay no one...

Down Goes Harden
Something tells me the Cubs ain’t living right. Big Z is back but now Harden heads to the DL. And the Cubs were shut down by Jake Peavy last night. Big Lou, from the Trib:
“We get a starting pitcher and we lose one,” manager Lou Piniella said. “Hopefully it’ll just be a couple starts and [...]
Peavy's Agent Speaks About Philadelphia
The biggest name likely to switch teams in the next few months will be Padres ace Jake Peavy. Most people believe the Phillies clearly aren't in the running due to his giant salary. But it's still fun to think about, yes? His agent recently talked about Jake and Philadelphia.
Zolecki at MLB.com reports that Peavy's agent says he has not discussed the possibility...
Jake Peavy Rejects White Sox Trade
Padres pitcher Jake Peavy invoked his no-trade clause, rejecting the proposed trade to the White Sox. "As of right now, this is the best place for us to be. We made that decision for the time being," Peavy said before Thursday night's game against San Francisco.Peavy, who is 3-5 with a 3.82 ERA with 69 strike outs, will make his scheduled Friday start versus the Cubs...
Peavy, Bale, Moustakas, and a Link
First off I want to personally thank Jake Peavy for rejecting the trade to Chicago. I like him even more now that he has given the White Sox the finger. To Mitch Williams and any other paid media who went on record as saying that the Sox acquiring Peavy would not impact the AL Central, [...]
Jake Peavy Shuts Down Punchless Cubs
Two days ago it looked like Jake Peavy was going to become a member of the Chicago White Sox, but the trade was vetoed by Peavy himself, and he remained a member of the San Diego Padres. Friday night he took the mound against the other Chicago team, the offensively inept Cubs, and showed the [...]

Casual Friday: Greetings From Beautiful San Diego
The Yankees are all about the pinstripes, in every sense of the word. The rest of MLB is more casual. This is the latest post in a Friday series called Casual Friday, in which I take a quick look around the rest of Major League Baseball.* Padres pitcher Jake Peavy will be on the mound in tonight's only intra-league game, as Interleague Play 2009 begins. Peavy had been traded...
Montero hitting 2nd? Lineups for tonight’s D-Backs-Padres game at Chase
It’s the rubber game of 3-game series between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres at Chase Field tonight…and yes you read that headline right, Miguel Montero is hitting in the two hole. Montero has had success against San Diego’s starter Jake Peavy, hitting .294 with a homer and 4 rbis against [...]
EV Peavy Japanesey...
Okay, let's talk Jake Peavy. It all depends on the package the Padres would accept. Because you know what? The Brewers have no pitching prospects. They have names on a list. And if you consider that the Brewers history with pitchers is a dark one? (Outside of Sheets and Gallardo? They have received little from pitching prospects.) If the package is something along the lines of Jeremy...
Rumor: Phillies discussing potential Peavy deal
Mike Francesa of 660-AM radio in New York claimed the Phillies are discussing a potential deal for San Diego’s Jake Peavy, who shot down a trade to the White Sox yesterday. Francesa didn't cite a source. Peavy will earn $11 million this season, $15 million in 2010, $16 million in 2011 and $17 million in 2012, and also has a $22 million club option for 2013. Mayberry update: In...
Peavy Rejects Trade to White Sox
MLB.com reports that San Diego Padres ace Jake Peavy exercised his no-trade clause and nixed a potential 4-for-1 trade today that would have sent the All-Star right-hander to the Chicago White Sox. Chicago's two top pitching prospects, Aaron Poreda and Clayton Richard, were reportedly to have been included in the deal. "Right now, this is the best place for me and my family," Peavy...
Rosenthal: Colorado starter Marquis in Phils' sights
Jason Marquis, 30, is 6-3 with a 4.55 ERA (105 ERA+) in nine starts. The Rockies (18-26) are 12 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West. [Link] Beerleaguer: This is the second time Marquis' name has surfaced in connection with the Phillies, the other during the Winter Meetings when the Cubs and Padres were discussing Jake Peavy. Marquis has settled comfortably into being your basic...
Holy pitching!
Last week a Chicago Sun-Times writer was on ESPN proclaiming that the acquisition of Jake Peavy would give the Chicago White Sox, far and away, the best pitching staff in the AL Central--an opinion shared by this guy--not just because of Peavy’s talents but because of how poor the pitching is in the division. Peavy is a very good pitcher. I have no desire to argue otherwise. I...
Jake Peavy Says No!
And after all the hoopla, rumors, and hysteria; Jake Peavy is still a San Diego Padre. The White Sox, led by GM Kenny Williams, made a strong push for the Padres ace, but they were unable to convince Peavy to come to Chicago. No surprise there: it's been well documented that Peavy wants to remain in the National League and is comfortable in San Diego and is hesitant to move.There...
Padres Shopping Kouzmanoff
Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times says in a recent article that the Padres have expressed a willingness to move third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff. Kouzmanoff would fill the void left by Aramis Ramirez, who will be out for six to eight weeks after separating his shoulder. Kouzmanoff is hitting .236 with 4 home runs in 42 games this season, and is a .260 career hitter.
Kouzmanoff...
