Mike Mussina insists he hasn't forgotten how to pitch. It just looks that way. In the worst slump of his stellar career, Mussina gave up six runs and nine hits in just three innings during the New York Yankees' 16-0 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Monday night. "These are probably the worst nine innings I've pitched in my entire career," the 247-game winner said. "Right now I let go of it and I don't think like anything good is going to happen. And it's tough to pitch that way."

  • It's a shame that he is losing it this year. He has been so good for so long. Maybe a fresh start somewhere else next year might help. Maybe in the NL?

25 Years Later, Brett is Still A Maniac!

It just doesn't seem possible that Thursday, July 24 marks the 25th anniversary of George Brett's mighty swing against Goose Gossage that set in motion one of the most infamous events in baseball history. It has become known simply as The Pine Tar Game. Like the sticky consistency of pine tar it remains glued to my memory banks. The vision of a raving mad George Brett...

MLB '06: The Good, The Bad and The Royals

AL East1) New York YankeesThe Good: Their payroll is gigantic. They have very few holes and any holes that sprout up will be filled midseason. Their lineup is basically a list of all-stars. Their closer is the best of all time and finished last year with a 1.38 ERA. Pitching staff is deep with at lea...

Quick Hits: Buffet Advised A-Rod; The Gambler Fires Boras...

Alex Rodriguez may be the object of scorn and generally disliked amongst baseball fans right, but he's sure not a dummy. In fact, a special friend might have saved face for him. According to the AP, Warren Buffett advised Alex Rodriguez to approach the New York Yankees and go around agent Scott Boras, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.

The End of the Joe Torre Era in New York

Technically, the New York Yankees did not fire Manager Joe Torre but they certainly made him an offer that he could refuse: a one year contract with a 33% reduction in base salary. Is that really a fair deal for someone who led New York to 12 straight postseason appearances and four World Series titles?

Yanks shouldn't even consider A-Rod at shortstop

For the moment, the New York Yankees are saying they don't expect shortstop Derek Jeter to go on the disabled list with a quad injury. But Joe Girardi wasn't exactly shrugging off the injury either, saying, "We're keeping our fingers crossed" that he won't be sidelined for more than a week....

The Detroit Tigers have just added Gary Sheffield of the New York Yankees to our lineup, although they had to part with three young pitching prospects to do it. Book Review: Change Up

When it comes down to it, there is no sport that I enjoy or know more about than baseball. A large reason for that is that I grew up with a father who was and continues to be a passionate New York Yankees fan (you have to remember that the Florida Marlins were not around in my early childhood). I have played organized baseball since I was five years old and continue be a student...

Lee, Lead Squandered

Cliff Lee pitching is typically a good thing. Cliff Lee pitching with an 8-1 lead is typically even better. 'Twas not the case last night, as the Indians pitching staff allowed 22 hits to the Detroit Tigers - most of which came after the fourth inning. Lee took an 8-2 lead into the fifth and proceeded to allow four runs. You may be saying, "well, we still left with...

Seagulls drop in on Mets-Tigers game

Dozens of seagulls dropped in on the Detroit Tigers-New York Mets game Sunday in Detroit. They interrupted play at least once, and some of them hung around the entire game. At least none of them were killed, not like some of the unlucky birds in the video below.
