As most of you have read my posts you know I am a homer! I love the Red Sox no doubt. So please don't take this is a rant or an excuse. But what was home plate umpire Brian Gorman looking at last night...clearly about 12 pitches to both the Red Sox and Indians were AWFUL calls! Travis Hafner had two pitches called strikes that hung off the plate, and Coco crisp had a pitch that should have been ball four about 1 foot off the plate called a strike. Almost anytime a batter went 0-2 the next pitch regardless was a ball and almost every batter that went 3-0 it was called a strike. And if you don't believe me find a friend who has TIVO and go through the game like I just did and see for yourself. It was horrendous! I would have to say however the plays in the field were called great! The DP the Indians turned in the first was clearly an out and the DP the Red Sox almost turned in the 5th Hafner was safe. It's just sad to see poor pitch calls at the plate...I mean even Tim McCarver saw it and frankly that's a miracle in itself! I will say however the Indians once again took advantage of there opportunities and did things when they needed to. Been a good series so far and I hope my Red Sox can knuckle up here and do a bit better! Peace and Happiness, GO SOX! -Michael http://www.bosoxbuzz.com/ http://bosoxbuzz.blogspot.com/

  • yea Mike, i was there. The calls looked worse in person.

I actually tried to start a LA-SIK chant for the umpires but it didn't really catch on.

This post-season has been rough as far as balls/strikes. CC Sabatia averaging ~1.7 walks per 9 has walked 11 in 2 games. something just doesn't seem right there. Dice-K wasn't too far off on a lot of those called balls either.
  • I mean even on tv that box they put up now sometimes the marker couldn't go all the way to the left or the right because the pitches were so far off!
  • He was terrible both ways. I hope this is a one time only thing and doesnt turn into the NBA the way they ref games.
  • I think I cringed more at the awful ball calls that Jake Westbrook occasionally got. Both starters yesterday are guys that historically don't deal well with rubber strike zones. The Indians would have won that game either way... but the rubber strike zone didn't make me feel any better about it.
  • Totally agree with your remarks on the officiating. I have a strong feeling that there are too many old, overweight umpires in the league that continue to hold their jobs due to their strong union. The majority of the time these guys are totally out of positon so we at home actually have a better view of the play than the ump on the field. But hey, count your blessings that the league decided to omit Bruce Froemming from the series. If you saw some of the calls he made during the Yankee series you know what I mean. If you see him in the the world series, which is very possible since he is about to retire and they want to honor him, get ready for some real bad officiating. He is so old he can't see anymore and so fat he is never in position.

Suck it, (Bill) Simmons

SIMMONS: "The No. 1 thing that killed the Red Sox in Game 2: Because of the ridiculously late start (8:21 at night), the weather (dipped into the mid-40s as the game went on) and the length of the game (at 11 p.m., we were still in the fifth...

Hey Manny - SCORE-BOARD

Manny Ramirez might have just set a record for the longest admiration of a Home Run in an MLB playoff game. The only problem was that the Red Sox still trailed the Indians by four runs. That ranks down there with Shawne Merriman doing his "Lights Out" sack dance when his Chargers are trailing the Patriots by 17 points. Video of the back-to-back-to-back jacks...

Ugly Clooney

BY Lucas Pearson , October 15th, 2007 As the 2006 season approached, I was very excited about the addition of Josh Beckett to the Boston rotation. As hard as it was to say goodbye to Hanley Ramirez, who was sure to be a star, it was worth it to obtain a young pitcher that could immediately become the ace of the staff. There was also a lot of talk about the albatross that...

G38's "Magic Spell" Ineffective.

BY Matthew Sisto , October 15th, 2007 Curt Schilling resorted to casting a "magical spell" on his baseball after giving up a three-run home run to Jhonny Peralta in Saturday night's ALCS matchup. Manny Being...an Idiot, but that's Boston

I always say I am going to let things go, but with the constant replays on ESPN and many other postings on the web, I have to get my two cents in on Mr. Manny Ramirez. Having been a Tribe fan my entire life and during Manny's time spent in Cleveland, I can't say I remember a time, walk off or insignificant home run, where Manny, while with Cleveland, pulled a show boat...

Three Trade Candidates

The main purpose of a farm system is to develop talent that can help the big league club. Prospects can do that in two different ways; by joining the team and making a positive impact or by being used as a chip in a trade that brings in a player that helps the team. (continued...)
