After a two hour and thirty-two minute rain delay, Thursday night's game between the Cubs and Pirates was cancelled due to inclement weather.
With the Cubs down 3-0 in the top of the fourth, Ryan Doumit stepped to the plate to begin the inning. Jeff Samardzija got ahead in the count 1-2 then the rains came. Two pitches later, the game was halted with a 2-2 count on Ryan Doumit.
The Pirates jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning after a RBI single by Garrett Jones plated Andy LaRoche ... who had doubled with one out. Lastings Milledge followed with a wind-blown homer to left, a two-run shot that gave the Pirates a 3-0 lead.
The Cubs put runners on base in the first three innings but hit into inning ending double plays in the second and third.
For the second season in a row the Cubs will play a 161-game schedule.

Free Agent at the End of the Season: Rich Harden
Over the course of his career, Rich Harden has been a maddeningly frustrating pitcher. Since 2005, Harden has spent ample time every year on the DL and and a result...
With Reed We Will Succeed?
It's amazing what a difference a few extra words mean.
In all the daily Chicago newspapers, overshadowing the pathetic Pirate sweep, lead stories picked up on Ted Lilly's choice of undergarment yesterday. Namely, a t-shirt emblazoned with the slogan "With Reed We Will Succeed". I made the mistake of first reading the Sun-Times article, which states...
