Chris Volstad vs. Cubs hitters: 6-23, HR, 2 BB, 6 K
Ryan Dempster vs. Marlins hitters: 20-66, 2 HR, 13 BB, 11 K
When and Where: 12:10 on WGN
Volstad has faced the Cubs one time in his short career. He pitched 6 innings allowed 6 hits and 2 runs at Wrigley Field last month. Aramis Ramirez took him deep. Dempster has had his issues with these Marlins hitters, but the wind is blowing straight in at 10 mph, though I doubt it affects the ball that much in that park. Last month at Wrigley Field Dempster got a no decision against these Marlins. He pitched 6 innings, allowed only 2 hits and 1 run (earned), while striking out 6, but did walk 6 Marlins batters that game.

Contract Extension For Dempster?
Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster was not the best closer, but was still making five million dollars annually to do it. Now that he is starting, he has turned into the teams ace compiling a 13-5 record with a 2.92 ERA and 139 K. It is a win-win situation for Ryan Dempster. Not only has he won the hearts of Cubs fans, but he is winning big games in a contract year. Dempster has publically...
Cubbie Chaser: VOTE DEMPSTER FOR CY YOUNG, AND MVP, AND KING OF THE WORLD...
Since morphing from the Cubs' 2007 closer into their 2008 ace -- sorry, Carlos Zambrano, your last two starts prove you're too inconsistent to wear the crown -- Dempster has done everything in his power to make Cub fans believe this could be their year. And trust me, that's an amazing feat, akin to climbing Mt. Everest naked.

Ward-o-saurus Walks the Earth Again
In one of those magic moments that seem to happen during every team's playoff run, Daryle Ward went from one of the Cubs 2008 goats to Northside hero. His three-run homer in the top of the ninth was good for a .647 WPA, which seems to be the biggest hit of the Cubs season.
Before that astonishing at-bat, Ward was 0 for his last 10, 4 for his last 29, and 4 for 40...
Road streak ends
The Cubs 9-game road winning streak came to an end as they got beat by the Marlins 2-1.
A Name Fiasco To Rule Them All
It's funny how people can spoil even the simplest of privileges. One of these privileges that I'm talking about is the decision parents make when naming their own children. Names like Robert, Steven, and Derek are considered fairly standard and not too exotic. Naming your son "Wrigley" because your last name is "Fields" is not [...]
Notes on Road Dominance
First of all, I want to say Hi to everyone out there in internet land. How's it going? Good to hear you're doing well. How am I you ask? Fucking unbelievably awesome, because the Cubs are playing their best baseball of the year coming into the home stretch.
And it couldn't come at a better time [...]
Who is the Cubs 2008 MVP at this point of the season?
Unfortunately you have to register to vote and you have to vote to see the results. Just a bug in this software.
Come throw out the first pitch if you're named after the ballpark!
Not long ago a family in Toledo, Ohio, with the last name Arena, named their newborn Joe Louis; as in Joe Louis Arena, the home of the Detroit Red Wings. Well, attack of the classic names is back, this time with a baseball flavor. Seven-year-old Wrigley Fields (seriously) will be throwing out the first pitch at Wrigley Field on August 29th.
The Bump and The Grind
This might be a random collection of events, but taking the mound against the Cubs has had it's risks. It dawned on me that we've seen some season ending injuries happen to our opponents pitchers. Coincidence? Or Death Cab for Cutie?
