Found December 02, 2006 on Cubs Hub:
According to several well respected sources, the Chicago Cubs have offered the lefty Lilly a 4 year deal worth 32 million dollar. Apparently there is still some negiotating over the money and Ted will probably wiggle a few more million out especially with other teams still interested in him.

I don't buy this at all. If superbum Adam Eaton got 3 years at $24 million ($8 a year), then a slight bum like Lilly will get something in the neighbourhood of $12 million, which would make it a 4 year, $48 million contract. Certainly not worth it but this year's market is crazy.

Independent of whether or not this is a good deal (money-wise), the Cubs have certainly been one of the more active teams this offseason. After signing Soriano and giving Gonzalez an extension, the Cubs have not picked up Lilly- not to mention, adding Lou Pinella to their manager position. Expect the Cubbies to make a strong dive at the playoffs next year in that tough NL Central division.

Lilly could be a big bargain in fantasy leagues. The NL is terrible and he'll be leaving the AL East for what could be the worst offensive division in baseball. Outside of Pujols, Bronson Arroyo might be the next best hitter.
