Dunn and Dunner:
Part of me didn't expect Thompson to get called up for the game Saturday, but after Dusty's quote about not being able to tell us who is starting Saturday it made it a little obvious.
A few reasons why I didn't expect it:
* It's a road game
* It's in Yankee Stadium
* He has only pitched 14 games above the single A level
* Josh Fogg is still in the organization on a rehab stint somewhere
Now thinking about those reasons I pretty much have to toss out the 1st two of the four, just because lets be honest big league debuts have to scare you to death no matter what so the pressure is going to be sky high anyways.

Switch-Pitcher
Check out Pat Venditte - he's a "switch-pitcher." A senior at Creighton University, Venditte was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 2008 MLB Draft in the 20th round.
Our sources tell us, that after learning of Venditte's talents, Hank Steinbrenner wants Venditte to join the major league club as soon as possible: "There is no question about it, you don...
WORLD SERIES LIVE BLOG GAME 3
Round three! Can the Rockies drag themselves up off the canvas? Will Dice-K be able to repeat his Game 7 NLCS performance? Or will Josh Fogg move to 3-0 in the 2007 post-season? These questions and more will be answered tonight in Denver, Colorado. Be back here at 7:45 ET for the live-blog of Game 3.
Keppinger Is Probably Ready
Just checking out how the minor league guys did tonight I noticed that Jeff Keppinger didn't play in todays game in Louisville. I expect him to be in New York tomorrow considering we are currently down to 1 shortstop. He will probably be limited to pinch hitting and wont play in the field unless Janish goes down with an injury.
Igawa Searching For a Way Back to New York
The Yankees' $20 million bust from Japan toils in AAA. Good story and he's trying his best but it's hard to see what the Yankees saw in him in the first place.
Derek Jeter Overrated? NO WAY!
Sometimes there are times where there are things I feel I need to address. Today, I feel the need to take something to task. Here is what I'm referring to:
Via NY Daily News:.
In a Sports Illustrated survey of 495 Major League Baseball players in its June 23 issue, Derek Jeter was voted the most overrated with 10% of the vote. Struggling Giants lefthander Barry Zito was...
Adam Dunn Rips Toronto? Slams Canadian Currency?
This morning a friend emailed me a link to a Kevin Kaduk blog post presenting (rather than dissecting) the "feud" between Jays's GM J.P. Ricciardi and Reds's man-mountain Adam Dunn.
I hesitate to call it a feud, because, really, it has all the electricity and potential for violence of a Chad Michael Murray haircut.
Josh Fogg
Today, the Reds signed 31-year old righthander Josh Fogg to a 1-year, $1 million contract. Fogg was originally a 3rd-round selection by the Chicago White Sox in the 1998 amateur draft out of the University of Florida. He had an impressive debut at 25 with the Pirates, but otherwise has had a fairly...
A-Rod applauds as Yanks break ground on new team day spa
It was two snaps up in a circle for A-Rod yesterday following the exciting festivities in which Yankees brass announced construction on a state-of-the-art, players only day spa and nail salon, set to be conveniently located adjacent to the team's...
Yankees' Hot Streak Now At 7
I think there's been way too much Mets coverage lately and I would like to fix that.
As the Mets were heading to the west coast and firing their manager and coaches, the Yankees lost their ace, and have quietly won seven straight.
Joba Chamberlain pitched 5.2 innings in his fourth big league start. He recorded a career-high nine strikeouts and threw 100 pitches. He was...
A video you have to see - a switch hitter vs. a switch pitcher
If you are confused, don't be. It is confusing. Not just the title, but also watching the video. Yet, you have to see it.
Blue Jays GM Hates Adam Dunn
Story here
Ricciardi slammed Dunn on his Wednesday night phone-in show on The Fan 590, a Toronto radio station. His comments came after a caller suggested the Jays acquire Dunn, who is hitting .227 with 18 homers and 43 RBIs with the Reds.
"Do you know the guy doesn't really like baseball that much?" Ricciardi said to the caller. "Do you know the...
2007 - A Pre-Season's Thoughts
Back in March 2007, I wrote this about the upcoming season... it makes me laugh to see me writing about Pavano and Igawa in serious terms. Moose didn't have the season he or us wanted, but this year is great. The A-Rod-Jeter "no longer BFFs" in Spring Training seems like a lifetime (and storm in a teacup) ago, and my final 'world series'... I really should...
Modern Day Use of the Bullpen in Baseball
Fair Warning: This is one of my major league pet peeves!
The use of the modern day bullpen is a sore point with me. In my opinion, this practice is holding baseball back from gaining more widespread popularity. In order to gain more attention, all unnecessary down time needs to be eliminated. It is my opinion that the length of the games prevents people from becoming fans. The...
