It was a tight game in D.C., as the last-place Washington Nationals gave the Red Sox a fight last night, but the boys from Boston came out on top, 11-3.John Lannan of the Nats pitched well, allowing just three runs in six innings, before a record crowd of 41,517 at Nationals Park. But once it got down to a battle of the bullpens, it was simply no contest. The Red Sox pummeled the Nats pen for eight runs in the last three innings, highlighted by Jason Bay's two-RBI single and Jacoby Ellsbury's two-RBI triple. It was a big night for both, as Bay also hit a homer in the second and had four total hits. Ellsbury also had four hits and two triples. He also swiped his 30th base, and became just the fourth Sox player ever to steal at least 30 bases in two straight seasons.Brad Penny pitched well after a shaky start, when Washington scored the first run of the game in the opening innings. He gave the Sox his usual type of start: 5 2/3 innings, 3 earned runs, six strikeouts. Manny Del...

Thoughts on Jason Bay
Jason Bay timed his home runs very well this season, 15 of the 19 coming with runners on base this season. Thanks in part to that, he leads the American League (AL) in RBI with 69, eight more than Evan Longoria. High RBI totals are often a combination of opportunity and ability. [...]

Wonkin the wonks

Wehicle Identification Number
It's official. 11-3 win and we're five up. It was tight early, and Penny was pissing me off a little, especially when he threw the wild pitch to score a run right after a visit from Farrell. Then he walked the guy, his third in a row. But the guy has been key for us lately, and again he gave us a chance to win. The high camera in that park is ridiculous. I'm talking about...
Dave Roberts: World's Nicest Man
Now, of course those of us in Red Sox Nation with dear memories of 2004 are predisposed to loving Dave Roberts. There's little the man could do that would cause us to turn on him. Short of kicking a puppy, insulting my mom and donning a Yankees cap, I'd say the guy's pretty golden around here. (Though my mom is a lovely women and I'm sure she and Mr. Roberts would...
